Perfect example...
Of high value movement from a not well known brand.
Nomos is a stunning example of what you said before, not only famous and well known and recognisable brands can do high end horology. Nomos does it, with great value for money. Rolex doesn't, neither intended to do it even if its customers like to think the opposite; end of the story.
Still again, i don't consider the 3.3 mm of an automatic winding caliber a "marvel" in itself in any way, above all if proposed in watches priced in the 20k bucks range.
But the DUW 3001 with its 3.3mm thickness, in watches priced just a few thousands of bucks, is a marvel in front of any Rolex movement (and Patek 324 also)
And an automatic winding movement thick less than 2 mm, like the AP2121, the PP240, the FP71 or the Piaget 12P are still marvels. As a marvel is the new Bvlgari Octo Finissimo, just to stay away from the well known and recognisable brands. These are "miracles" of micro mechanics, still nowadays. Not a 40 years old rough work horse, even if it "hacks"
I don't know how you evaluate the value of a watch or movement, but it's not for sure the "hack" seconds the element distinguishing the value, quality or singularity of an high end movement, neither the brand who makes it (my examples about eta and so on were not intended about the brands but the quality and value of the things they do, would we consider "high end horology" any ot those movements, even if they hacks? I guess not).
As it's not the platinum the distinguishing element of value and quality of a wristwatch, neither are its statement, exclusivity, recognisability, and a bunch of other things have nothing to share with horology but you love to talk about
That cheap but robust work horse is perfect for a cheap rough tool watch like has ever been any rolex watch.
Like any eta or valfleurier or soorod or sellita workhorses in huge bunch of other similar watches are.
Is the platinum and the insane price related to it in order to make "exclusivity" where is just "banality", which is not well centred at all.
A platinum caterpillar still remains a caterpillar, doesn't turns into a Rolls Royce, as a platinum Rolex simply remains a rolex and won't ever be an "high end" watch.
That's nit an opinion, is just a fact.
Regards
