Rolex

it is certainly more high-end

than a 5711 in steel. It might come to you as a surprise but I am well aware that this is an horology forum biggrin

The movement on the 5711 doesn't have anything special in terms of horology.  As you well know it doesn't even hack -- which speaks miles about precision.  I own the 5711 so I am not saying that is not a great watch but the argument that only certain brands are deem to be considered high-end because their respective movements have a better manual finish is just misleading.

If for you high-end is about precision the rolex is more precise or at least as precise as the AP or the nautlius.

If is about the breakthrough in the movement well you can simply see the new movement of the day-date 40mm to see that a rolex, in general, is not necessarily low end because they produce more watches.

Now if you say that patek and others have better products in the true high-end grand complications I would agree.

"But, in a forum about "horology" i still prefer to debate about "horology" rather than luxury platinum bracelets."

T he day-date is only available in gold or platinum. Patek does the same and so AP. The same movement might be available in steel or precious metals.

"The difference is why it costs a lot, and how the watch is made; and in my point of view there's nothing exceptional in a DD in platinum that can explain that price. Neither the "difficulty" to manage the platinum (c'mon.... smile wink."

I see your point but c'mon you can't be buying the idea that the 5711 or 15202 are horological marvels. They certainly have a better finish but they didn't bring anything new to the world of horology.

The 240 in the 5711 has a widely known date misalignment problem, it doesn't hack and is not a chronometer.

Of course to each his own and the whole point of this topic was not to defend rolex or the day date. Was just for me to get some ideas of what else people would buy with the same budget (and not at half price in steel).  I like that rolex gathers to different audiences and doesn't try to create illusory demand or limited supply to raise their prices.

Thanks anyway for sharing your views. In my view an high-end watch is not meant to be in steel but a more sporty watch yes smile (and this is why in the rolex collection the day-date, that is at least for rolex high-end is not available in steel).
