Kari, curious about your preferences for 116520 steel bezel and 116500 ceramic bezel
But first and most important congratulations on acquiring a great watch. And for the money a watch that is even better than great!
You mentioned that you might like to acquire a now discontinued steel bezel 116520. Of the 4 Rolex movement steel Daytonas 116520 and 116500, black and white, how would you rate them in order of your personal preference?
Yesterday I was wearing a 116520 white and tried on my friend's ceramic 116500 black dial. I was very surprised that my INITIAL reaction (which could change) was that I preferred the 116520 white. That said, I very much look forward to getting a ceramic bezel 116500 and getting to know it better through wrist time.
Also curious, do any forum members prefer the steel bezel 116520?

The new Daytona is not unobtainable.
It's a bit difficult to get. But so is e.g. Nautilus 5711 - difficult but not impossible. Best, Kari

For me it's not an issue.
If the watch would be obtainable from all shops, this would have been on my wrist from 17th March. I have enough rare and limited watches. All of those I have bought just because of the watch - fu*k the rarity. Same with Daytona: the only reason to get it...
The absurd notion that this Daytona is hard to obtain is just silly
Maybe for a few months it may be... but they will be falling out of the trees as usual, shortly... if you love it for what it is, love it indeed, but don't pretend a Daytona is ever rare when still in production.

Why can't someone not enjoy being among the first to get it ? Nothing is really rare. With money even old daytonas are available..so what. I don't think that you can easily get one in a "few months". There is a 2+ years waiting list everywhere and rightly...
I did not put much effort to get the new Daytona
but Tudor Bronze has been a challenge. I did not manage yet even I tried from old friends in Europe plus AD in Hawaii. Wempe in Frankfurt said: "we have not seen it yet". Best, Kari

True. I did not want to discuss how difficult Daytona is or is not to get.
In 2006 Patek 5960P was very difficult to get. Now it sells 2nd hand with great prices. This happens with every new great watch and I do not find discussing it too interesting. Best, Kari
The watch is surely very well made, just like every Rolex, plus
the movement is great. With one Patek 5980 one could buy some 3.5 Daytonas. It makes Daytona a great purchase. Best, Kari

And especially against alternatives well outside the Daytona\'s price range.
I have discussed the movement with some watchmakers and
added to that a visual inspection makes me to think that Daytona represents really good value. Just compare e.g. with ROO... Best, Kari

The bezel is cool, indeed, but it now has much more flashiness. Rolex crossed over to more flashiness in a big way with the post-Zenith Daytona.
I do not see it like that.
The metal bezel was very sensitive and prone to scratches. This new ceramic bezel can take a lot of punishment and thus, Daytona has lost nothing from its tool watch characteristics. Best, Kari

I was considering only aesthetics
The polished bezel was very flashy before, IMO. Maybe moreso with the ceramic bezel? The black subdial surrounds of the new Daytona are much better than the silver ones on the prior version.

I agree too many people go for the platinum daytona but is really heavy..the
new white gold with blue dial thou but I know you don't like blue dials a lot or rightly think that are just fashion ..I agree but I might still try to get the WG blue dial because it looks amazing

I have some serious issues with platinum watches. Last year I was offered Patek 5711P. After long consideration I refused and regretted (a little bit) afterwards. I refused because I can't find one good reason why a sporting watch should be made of platin...

is so very prone to scratches and sometimes it's unnecessary heavy. I can't decide if I like more my 5960A or 5960P. For sure, the steel version (now with strap) is a nicer watch for every day use. Best, Kari

I have been searching if ceramic bezel assembly...
...is similar to the steel one. Not much info out there yet except this one has done it... If true and the construction is similar/interchangeable it wud be a win-win situation picking up either one
