Simply put, the designers butchered the polished hinge to put the pusher in...

Gerald Genta probably wouldn't approve of the pusher since it does detract from his original design.
As for the font; what was wrong with the 5712 date font to be used on the 5740 font? Why did they change it? For the sake of changing it? I don't think neither of us can answer that question. You say it's fine to change, and that it's not a big deal; I ask why they changed it... We both don't know the answer.
You presume that the 5740 was under development for some time; but we don't really know if this is fact or not either. It could be a hasty decision made after Patek Philippe's market research department realized that there would be a major market for a perpetual Nautilus. Who knows. We simply don't have the facts. We are only making educated guesses; aka presumptions.
Quoting you:
"Duh, it is a Patek movement and they have the right to re-conceive the
240 Q ultra thin movement however they can, injununity hard work and
lots of money is what I would call it. You have a point with the hing
not being functional and the pusher being in a polished area but that is
what it took to fit it all in, not sure it makes a difference?"
I don't believe you understood my original meaning. The point is that putting a pusher there makes the case design inauthentic. The case was designed to have a hinge. This effectively negates that. You might not care about the hinge no longer being functional. But someone who cares about pure authenticity of design might care. Yes, it was what Patek Philippe had to do to make the case work with the movement. It's a sacrifice they had to make. Some will find it a sacrifice that is acceptable. Others will find the sacrifice a bigger deal.
I'm not going to be acquiring a 5740. You probably will. That's probably a good thing; one less person after a watch that will likely be difficult to find. At the end of the day; I'm just merely stating, if I owned a 5740, I probably wouldn't be happy with it because of some reasons. At the end of the day, if you're happy with it, that's what matters to you.
There have also been some people who have already noted my reasons and have further examined the watch and have cancelled their orders. Three PuristS members I know of are reconsidering their acquisition of the 5740 and one has reversed his decision and plans to cancel. One has stated, and I apologize if the following words put my opinion on a pedestal, he was happy with to procure the watch sight unseen, but after hearing my reasons, reasons he never noticed/considered on his own, he realized his slight "ignorance" (his words, not mine) and that I had made some good points and will now reconsider.
Again, I'm a big fan of the Nautilus. I'm also a big fan of the 240Q movement. I find the 5140 to be one of the best modern perpetuals in existence. I just don't like the 240Q in the Nautilus with that dial font and the pusher at 9 o'clock. And I feel that the designers at Patek Philippe know they made a big compromise, but they decided to sell this piece anyways to fill a market void. Again, it's all opinion. Some will be convinced that my opinion is likely true and others will dismiss it as another opinion. I can be happy for the individual who goes either path. I'm merely taking the Robert Frost path, the path less taken - the unpopular path.
