Patek 5740, a future Icon?
May 25, 2018,07:18 AM
Good morning all, I love the Natilus 5740’s look, layout, dial color, perceived legibility (haven’t see it in the flesh yet) and functions. I know we don’t have crystal balls and I will be told to buy “for the love of the watch” which I love as much as one can without holding it in my hands so I would like to get thoughts on how many of you are just salivating for it’s released (very soon) and have ordered one or staying on the sidelines to see what happens?
It is not a limited piece albeit they will not produced in high quantities and that makes it more difficult difficult (from a collectors view) to assess how a piece will be viewed now and in the future. For example when the 5976 (40th anniversary Natilus) was announced I immediately put a deposit on one, in part because it was limited to 1300 pieces (and very cool/different). Although that is not a guarantee of future acceptance or value, it limits the downside, the 5740 does not have this advantage.
Will the release of this very special (but not limited) Natilus make the 5976 less collectible or will both be sought after equally? Does the 5740 elevate all Natilus to even a higher cult status? With the 5711/5712 models rising in price for the last few years I wonder, can it keep going? Thanks for any input you have...Jim
