An awful piece...

1. It's totally created to fit a hole in the Patek Philippe portfolio. Audemars Piguet has one, Vacheron Constantin has one, so now Patek Philippe needs to have one.
2. The font is so radically different than everything ever used by Patek Philippe that I thought it was a counterfeit! The font on the date subdial don't look anything like the 5712 date subdial, yet they're both from the same family.
3. The pusher at 9 o'clock is further evidence that this movement was never conceived with this watch in mind, and evidence that the two do not go well together. The 9 o'clock side where the pusher is at is a piece of polished metal. The pusher starkly interrupts this stretch of polished metal that is also a hinge. The pusher makes the hinge no longer a functioning hinge and thus an inauthentic piece. I wished Patek Philippe did something to adapt this pusher to this case; in fact I expect them to. I'm disappointed.
The watch will sell well. No doubt. But the most aware Nautilus buyers will realize the watch is a total compromise built purely to ensure marketshare isn't lost to Audemars Piguet and Vacheron Constantin.
Might I add, I'm a big fan of Patek Philippe and the Nautilus. I was a fan before the Nautilus got popular. Many of you know I'm a fan of the brand. But this piece is so obviously built to fulfill a gap missing in the market that I can't get behind this piece. And I'm not a Patek Philippe fan boy who thinks Patek Philippe can do no wrong.
