Patek Philippe Twenty-4 Automatic International Launch

Oct 10, 2018,13:07 PM

Launched in 1999 the Patek Philippe Twenty-4 was the first ladies watch in Steel. It was set with diamonds on the sides of the case which was inspired by the Gondolo collection.  It also featured 10 diamonds on the dial. The dial came in a variety of colours including grey, blue, white and black. There was a total of 0.45 carat of diamonds.

The grey dial version has become a cult classic. The Patek Philippe Twenty-4 has become a very successful watch and was the first ladies steel watch with diamonds.

The collection was further enhanced by the addition of gold models. One reason why the Twenty-4 has become so successful is its versatility in being usable throughout 24 hours, it looks just as elegant with a T-shirt and jeans as well as a cocktail dress.

Today in Milan, Patek Philippe have launched a new collection-the Twenty-4 automatic. The new model features a round case with an integrated bracelet. The bezel  is set with 160 diamonds with a totalling 0.75 carat. It comes in stainless steel and rose gold. It fulfils its name as being usable throughout the 24-hour period just as it illustrious forebear did.

The diamonds in the bezel are arranged in a very special way it is called the Dentelle style. You can see the original DNA is instilled deeply in this new model. What really excites is the addition of the automatic movement the calibre 324SC. Thierry Stern has claimed that this automatic movement is the most accurate the company produces.

The new model has a thoroughly modern 36 mm case. There are two dial colours there is an electric blue and a grey dial. There is also a chocolate brown dial in the rose gold model. There is also a very beautiful satin finished dial dial which looks exquisite in both the steel and gold model

The dial features Arabic numbers in the style of the pilot watch with Super luminova.

I expect the steel model especially with the blue dial and most probably the satin finished dial to be exceptionally sought after. Patek Philippe have done the impossible, they have taken an incredibly successful iconic model and actually improved on it. It is rare for a sequel to be as good as the original. In my opinion Patek Philippe have hit a homerun with this new model.

Best
Imran

It is only natural as blue and grey dials come on steel models

 By: MTF : October 10th, 2018-16:25
The best sellers will be steel Twenty-4 Automatic watches. We already know that grey dial Twenty-4 quartz watch is the current best seller so it is likely that both grey and blue dial variants of the Twenty-4 Automatic watches also will become bestsellers...

Good, it has the 324sc movement. Very reliable.

The blings beautiful. Many wives would like to have it. Tfs. Your report shows Patek's one of the best in its field. Cheers 🍾🥂🎊. To the new 24. Geross

You could be right...

So far I'm hearing more men's opinions which are overwhelmingly negative. But the female opinion is what counts!

Agree. As a test, I just asked my girlfriend, who with my great surprise (and pleasure) had been following the news today...Honestly, she also isn't enthusiastic.

 By: FabR : October 10th, 2018-17:05
However, after watching the commercial with the model wearing it in Milan, she likes the R version a bit better... Hence --- according to my statistical sample of one woman that I polled today --- I would say this piece wasn't particularly successful...at...

 By: patrick_y : October 12th, 2018-01:40
It's still a short poll, single digits. But none of the women whom I know have seen the photos are going to get one. One even said she would never wear one except for one scenario; she could learn to like the new watch if her son on his first job out of u...

I totally thought this was a prank. Like Bansky did with the shredded art prank. Looks like a generic watch with a Patek Philippe logo slapped on.

Completely uninspired “design”. A bit of everything.

Yeah seriously

 By: tom2517 : October 10th, 2018-19:37
Very generic looking.

I have a very standardized answer... I concur with you!

 By: patrick_y : October 12th, 2018-01:41
At the risk of giving you a very generic response... All I can say is that I agree!

Does anyone know how successful was the previous model?

 By: galaxys : October 10th, 2018-15:10
If they decided to radically change the shape, perhaps it's because of the automatic movement. It's undoubtedly easier to fit a quartz in a square case. That's the logic. In terms of design, well, I must admit I'm a bit perplexed. Aren't Arabic numerals a...

It doesn’t have the style of the original 24, that’s for sure

 By: descartes1 : October 10th, 2018-15:18
And I don’t like the date window. But, it’s going to be a BIG seller I’ll bet. (The numerals remind me of those on the aquanaut).

Dear Imran, thank you for a really nice report

 By: ChristianDK : October 10th, 2018-15:24
I am amazed that you already found time to get all this together. This range was never my favorite but I tend to agree with you that it is an improvement over the original. My favorite is the one with the dial that looks like fabric - is that the satin? I...

Thanks Imran for the early report. In the immediate aftermath of seismic change, there will always be knee-jerk reactions. It is understandable that the vast majority of such responses have been by men who outnumber women on this forum. Some may be disgru...

I for one like the square Twenty-Four quartz watches. They're a nice elegant design. I definitely like the reference. But I can't say I like this latest one. But then again, I'm not the intended audience.

I still don't own a Rolex. Thinking about one. I'm on the list for a couple special pieces.

Well said.

The audience for this watch are women. At the risk of generalizing, women in general have different taste than men do. Chalk it up to genetics and cultural marketing. I will also say that any PP I've seen in the flesh has never looked cheap. They can be d...

It’s great to know that Patek takes into consideration of its various customers and continues to make evolution of their models.

I think it's nice looking watch.

You can really wear it for 24 hours and it will adapt to any setting. Thank you for the pics!

and I would be happy to wear the 36mm steel model!! The next time we meet Imran, you know what I am going to ask you

I've seen your wrist and location

I think you can easily carry the 36mm Twenty-4 automatic, even with bling, where you live! 😉 MTF

You are too kind MTF!!

The bling is definitely not for me or else I would have bought a Patek ladies world timer which to me is the most attractive world timer minus the diamonds in the market. ...

Buried in the chaos of the announcement is an important point. I find it fascinating that the most accurate or robust automatic movements of their era were put into basic ladies' watches by Patek Philipe, Rolex and Chopard. So the ladies watches have the ...

Not sure about Chopard and Rolex

 By: sham1 : October 10th, 2018-23:30
but I know the 324 movement has been used for men's watches for many years now so I guess the tried and trusted movement was the logical choice for the new Twenty 4.

On first sight I don’t like the new model a lot. Especially the discontinuous diamond bezel looks odd to me. Do the middle parts of the bezel belong to the bracelet? Those gaps don’t look good imho. That’s a strange construction. But as always, need to se...

As much as I recognize that more ladies prefer no-quartz watches I can see a twenty four release with a mechanical movement. The size at 36mm is quite contemporary as are the overall aesthetics. However I am not feeling an immediate wow pull here personal...

Thanks for sharing.

Another bold move from Patek for the last 5 years. The watch didn’t win my heart. The original model did with my happy wife.

What were they thinking?

Sorry to say, I would categorize this release in that way.

Thanks Imran for this post to update us on the new release !

 By: GLau : October 13th, 2018-09:31
The design is quite different than the previous version and the numerals (similar to the 5524) makes the dial more prominent. Since the case is totally different because of the movement, there is not much linkage to the previous one for me. Perhaps the th...
