Patek Philippe 2023 Rare Handcrafts Collection

Mar 20, 2023,21:20 PM

Looks like PP‘s 2023 rare handcrafts collection will feature a couple of automotive-inspired pieces. The one pictured is stunning (looks like cloisonné enamel and miniature painting). The whole collection will be presented at PP’s Geneva Salons from 1 through 15 April 2023. More information on PP’s website. Best, V.

Some people might like these!

I like cars. I like watches. I like enamel dials too. I'm not sure I like the hands on this watch, but the strap is clever. The hands overdo it for me though.

I kind of like the approach. Let’s see how it looks like in real life.

The photo isn’t good quality as is often the case on PP’s website.

+1

i wonder if the Clous de Paris means we're a few more years away from the xx96 successors

 By: Francoamerican : March 20th, 2023-22:57
Clous de Paris. seems to be a large part of the current Calatrava design language.

The hobnail bezel has been used on Calatravas of the rare handcrafts collection for many years.

 By: Pretty Boy : March 20th, 2023-23:05
Those pieces bear the reference number 5177G, the flat bezel models 5089G.

Great point, the historical relevance of the Clous de Paris/hobnail bezel is indeed hard to overestimate within the Calatrava lineup! This specific Rare Handcraft will be part of the new reference 5189G.

 By: FabR : March 20th, 2023-23:31
As I commented in response to an earlier thread, instances of a hobnail bezel on Calatrava references go as far back as year 1934 (!), with Ref. 96 D. This was nearly ninety years ago, or only two after a certain visionary Genevan family, now at its fourt...

Really love the colors ...

on this School of Fish dial! Can't imagine how AWESOME it must be in the metal! Truly a museum worthy piece! 👏

Child prodigies!! 😉

If your primary school children are able to buy you this they must be serial entrepreneurs!! 😉

to have you Fabricio 😊😊😊

I think the difference is the hinged dust cover.

5177G has none.

Many thanks Dauster -- the 5189 will follow the long tradition of Patek Rare Handcraft models, both in- and out-of-catalog, which have beeen powered by the *automatic* Caliber 240.

 By: FabR : March 21st, 2023-20:07
Created in 1977, Caliber 240 is arguably one of the most iconic horological movements ever produced. Along with its variations, it is currently housed in as many as 25 Patek references. It's been the soul of most Rare Handcraft models we have seen in mode...

Not a problem — sometimes, even the most educated collectors may not be familiar with all details of Patek’s Rare Handcraft production👍 Even in these ‘emoticon times,’ which for highly mysterious reasons seem to never come to a conclusion…

 By: FabR : March 21st, 2023-23:16
…it remains my sincere pleasure to, on occasion, share real content and information with you and the many other highly intelligent and passionate collectors of our forum!😄 Cheers.

Like for any other model, a different reference number (meaning specifically the *first four* digits) normally corresponds to a substantial change in the watch that goes beyond the dial. The dial alone is indicated by the three digits after the dash.

 By: FabR : March 22nd, 2023-21:06
For instance, the complete reference of the "teaser" model is 5189G-001, where "001" uniquely identifies that enamel dial (G of course stands for the metal of the case, grey gold). Any other Rare Handcraft dial of this exact same model will be listed as 5...

Thanks, but I guess I wasn't very clear in my question.

 By: Dauster : March 23rd, 2023-00:51
What I was curious about was if there is only ref. 5189 produced this year for the calatrava style watches (excluding ladies watches) or if PP produces more than one ref for the rarehandcrafts (I know that they make an ellipse of course as well) but only ...

awesome can't wait !!!

My 5177G-028 and a 5089G-101 together in the metal?? I wish my friend, but chances of that ever happening are *really* slim! :-))

 By: FabR : March 21st, 2023-23:19
In all honesty, I'm not even aware of the recipient(s) of the 5089G-101 (which I couldn't disclose anyway)....but should such an incredible mini-GTG ever happen, I'll be sure to post a picture here! Cheers.

that would be awesome :)

Many thanks Volker for sharing this gorgeous '5177G teaser' that appeared on Patek's site today! :-)

I already spoke with Patek and, as usual, I will have the honor of making the official announcement of the AMAZING 2023 Collection very soon -- that will also coincide with my 3rd anniversary of being the Moderator for this forum, so I guess we'll make it...

Can't wait!

Very cool!

 By: RabidManatee : March 21st, 2023-01:46
What car is that supposed to be? Maserati? Ferrari? Can’t imagine it’d be an Auto Union 😉 .

👍🥂Cheers.

what a cool piece!

 By: keks : March 21st, 2023-12:21
absolutely spectacular!

Dear Friends, a few more details on the 2023 Rare Handcrafts Exhibit (April 1-15, Patek Salons) and on the gorgeous new 5189G-001 from the "teaser"....which combines enamel and miniature painting techniques (some similarities with Boccadasse! ;-))

 By: FabR : March 21st, 2023-16:29
Below is for you the first official release of the season -- more to come of course next week with the live announcement of the new models! For further info on the Exhibit, please see Patek's official site at: Cheers! FabR (Patek moderator) ...

Love this automotive theme

 By: TeutonicCarFan : March 21st, 2023-17:38
I am betting it will really resonate with collectors, making them even more difficult to obtain!

That's also a good point -- besides the insane competition for any Rare Handcraft among top collectors in recent years, chances are this theme will be another huge hit in terms of popularity, given the overlap between watch and car lovers! ;-))

 By: FabR : March 22nd, 2023-12:32
As a general note for Everyone, since I'm receiving several questions about the application process, my best advice is definitely to show interest *as soon as* we make the announcement next week, which will happen at the start of W&W. If you and/or yo...

In. 🏎💨
