Patek Philippe: I don't envy their marketing comms team, but I welcome precise and accurate water resistance claims

I think a lot of the discussion has been based on misunderstandings of what has changed. Reading the press release, the change is now there is a clear definition of what 30m water resistance means (e.g. you can swim at a depth of 30m) and they are testing all watches that they claim are water resist

Patek Philippe: It represents the international date line

When changing your local time zone, the date moves back one day when crossing this indicator. (Unless you are in the one hour of the day where the date is the same in all timezones, if that is the case then the date remains the same.)

Patek Philippe:

I am not surprised at all about the 5330G launching this year at W&W. After all, the Tokyo edition was the 5330G-010 so it seemed obvious that a -001 was already in the pipeline for the standard catalog. I do wonder whether or not we will eventually see an enamel 5331 as I think the less complic

Patek Philippe: Very odd

I can understand why they are changing how they communicate about water resistance given their updated guarantees, however I imagine there will be quite a bit of confusion in the process. That being said, I don't expect there will be any Aquanauts or Nautiluses sitting unsold at ADs due to customers

Patek Philippe: Congratulations

It looks great! One of the fun things with the 5212A is how great it looks with different straps, definitely consider adding some additional colored ones in the future.

Patek Philippe: I think it is just a typo

In the W&W2024 press release they commented on improved water resistance testing (and improved warranty and accuracy guarantee). I am guessing they did a batch edit of their website to reflect these updates and accidentally included models with >30m water resistance.

Seiko: They may not have completed production of last year’s 50 pieces

I visited Shiojiri in summer of 2022 and they were still manufacturing the SBGZ007 that had been launched a year earlier. I think it takes them about 2 years to fulfill all 50 pieces with the limited production capacity of the Micro Artist Studio.

Patek Philippe: I think it is to address all the “old wives’ tales” on interpreting water resistance ratings

But you are probably on to something with regards to it being in preparation for their upcoming new sports model line that Thierry Stern has been mentioning in interviews for the past year or two.

Patek Philippe: Maybe the biggest surprise is hidden in the press release - 5 year warranty and increased accuracy guarantee

Strengthened criteria governing rate accuracy The rate accuracy of Patek Philippe watches is checked at several stages in the manufacturing process, initially with uncased movements and then with finished watches. Since 2009, the final rate-accuracy measurement, performed on a kinetic simulator, mus

Patek Philippe: Maybe an unpopular choice, but I love the new sapphire and diamond Aquanaut

I have room in my collection for an over-the-top gem-set watch and the new Aquanaut 5268/461G is now at the top of my wishlist. I also really like the 5330G-001 and the overall blue-gray color theme it shares with the new 5980 and 5164. The styling of this one is definitely to my taste even if it is
