Patek Philippe

It is relatively simple...

Once upon a time, Mike H met amanico somewhere near Luxembourg Garden in Paris with some other Purists friends as they do from time to time. They were all looking at the watches they had brought that day and there was a PP 5070 G on the table. Mike told his friend "I know this watch well, I saw it many times in picture, it has a wonderful design, a wonderful Lemania movement but... it's not for me because it is far too big for my chicken's wrist". Amanico insisted that Mike put it on his wrist and that was a kind of revelation ! That large 42mm watch of course had a strong presence on the wrist but strong presence because of its spectacular beauty and not because of its size smile. Mike actually fell in love and guess what happens when Mike falls in love...

And to answer your question why I fell in love... I think Joe explained it quite well : for a mix of objective and subjective reasons. The objective ones are well known : gorgeous case shape and dial design (if it is your taste as of course these are not objective criterias), unquestionable wonderful Lemania movement with a top notch finishing, a very well designed case which makes it quite comfortable in spite of its large size (fits my wrist much better than Lange for example) and visually absolutely perfect and not oversized. As for the subjective reasons it is difficult to explain why I fell in love but I simply did ! wink just like a man in front of his future wife or girlfriend, or a collector in front of the painting of a master wink. Finally between G and P versions : my choice was easy since the P was out of reach for me but I had a chance to get a G. I was very happy with that gorgeous G but if I had a chance to afford a P of course it would be different since in terms of dial color I am often a blue dial sucker (Voutilainen, Laurent Ferrier, H. Moser, Nautilus... in my collection are an evidence) and the special blue of this 5070P is just magic. When you add the utmost rarity of the P vs the other versions (1 year production so probably 100 to max 200 pcs produced) you have not only a gorgeous piece but also a rare object that will certainly continue to gain in popularity among collectors (and thus possibly value but this must not to be motivation as there is no certainty). Hope this helps for you to take your decision according to your own criterias... (I envy you, it would be YES just now ! wink) My 2 cents wink, Mike
