Patek Philippe

It's like a piece of art

Those that don't "get it" come up with reasons why you shouldn't buy it. Those that do "get it", understand why you are looking.

First things first, price is a hard thing to factor into the equation. Only 150-200 of this reference was made. From 2009 onwards, it's rarity and desirability amongst Patek cognoscenti has seen its price driven higher and higher. Is it good value at today's price? I don't know. I think finding relative value on what is essentially a piece of art is almost an impossible task. This is why I think you need to look at it like a piece of art. Does it bring you great joy? Do you love it?

Regarding technical issues like it's size and movement, I feel such arguments are not based on fact. This watch IS a modern watch. It was produced as recently as 2009. On its release and subsequently, criticism of its case size and movement have usually only been an issue for guys who don't own one. And certainly, the praise for the watch far outstrips any negatives. I think there is often a case that watches that are essentially impossible to locate will get some negative views in comparison to watches that can be easily purchased from a shop. It's just human nature.

One doesn't look at a piece of art and argue that Van Gogh should have used a smaller frame. It is what it is. This watch is what it is and that is something of great beauty in my opinion. It is something of extreme rarity. And it also represents the first simple chrono from Patek for over 40 years. Produced for just one year. Yes, Gigi, this one is very special in a way that is hard to describe without knowing what it feels like to own it and wear it. The dial has a colouring that is unmatched in my view.

I have a small wrist but feel totally comfortable with it. I never wear it formally at all. Only with a pair of jeans casually. Works perfectly. In this context the case size and stepped design becomes a part of its attraction.

If you love it, then I think you "get it".
