Patek Philippe

I think that, especially when Patek is considered,

people would like to see what they want. This is natural but, aside from the fact it would be difficult to satisfy everyone, I don't think the way to success is to follow what people want but what they think their future offer should be.

You made a clear interpretation of how the watch can be seen and I agree with your view. That's what the brand wanted to present and I'm sure they knew people would have preferred a strap instead.

The 5131 has always been about an enamel dial work and pure example of high craftmanship. What the brand provides must not be only aiming at clients with traditional tastes. The trends and what people are looking for move on, the tastes evolve in line with trends we see in clothings, cars, architecture etc... and a brand like Patek should not imho follow what is today but prepare for what they want tomorrow and what people will look for.

The bracelet is seen by some as the 1980's accessory. But it can be seen as the future one as well. Yellow gold was considered 5 years ago as an old thing but today it is coming back and nobody says that it is old and out of fashion.

The 5131P is a very apepaling version of the 5131 and an artwork that not many brands provide today.

Like everything that has some character, it will appeal to a few number of people but it may serve the brand better on the long run. Of course it has to be done with good taste but it has to be done with a more contemporary approach too or the client pool will shrink.

I think the 5131P is great version and will appeal to people who really want it.

If you finally decide to go for it, I feel it will go to someone who understands that watch and who is in line with it.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Best, Mark
