And still counting!
I don't have many Patek Philippe watches, for a good reason: I am not a huge Patek Philippe Fan. They just don't move me.
But there are some which I really love. I have a wish list of only 4 or 5 Patek, vintage included. And those I have are here to stay as they all have the wow factor I am running after. The most famous example certainly is the 5110P which will be the last to stay with me, if I had to part with some of my watches.
The other Patek I really like is the 5070. I remember very well the first time I saw it in real life, in the window display of the Paris Boutique, some 17 years ago. It was love at first sight and I knew, at this moment, that I will have one.
It took me 5 more years... And I never got rid of it!
The 5070 ( G or in any other metal ) is not the finest modern Chronograph I know, by far. A Jaeger Lecoultre Duomètre à Chronographe or a Lange Datograph are clearly above, in terms of refinement and / or originality. It is not the most perfect one, by far, either, with its too small movement compared to the size of the case, but it is one of the most charming, with its imperfections. Better, I consider it like a Classic!
This reference has a strange but pleasant blend of coolness and elegance. A watch you can wear with a suit, or with jeans and an old sweater. On tanned skin, with a linen white shirt, it is hard to beat!
The proportions are very good, for me with its 42 mm case and a restrained height. Add the step bezel, the leaf shaped hands, the very elegant brushed silver dial and this lovely Lemania movement, reworked and finished by Patek, and you will understand why this is the kind of chronograph which brings an immediate smile, when you have it on your wrist.
Ok, truth to be told, when the Platinum version was unveiled, I put my name on the list to get one, in the same hour it was unveiled... I never had the call from Patek, but honestly, I am very happy with my choice and this white gold version.
Happy Birthday to my 5070G, and to many more years!
Best,
Nicolas
