Initially I thought it had the makings of being Omega's version of the Daytona. Then I realized it did not.
There is a single mindedness to the Daytona catalog that is absent in the Speedmaster. There is no lower priced version of the Daytona with a less expensive movement or a co-ax version for that matter. There is only one Daytona powered by one movement granted that it has several iterations (rubber, bracelet, case metal, etc). When one sees a Dayto, one does not think, which kind of Dayto is it? Is it the cheaper one, the one with this kind of movement, etc.
Then there's the fact that Rolex has only one chrono and that is the Dayto.
I dunno.. the real modern day Speedmaster would still probably be the cal 1861 NASA certified hesalite solid caseback version.
Now if they're able to swing a new NASA flight qualified version of this 321..
Anyway, I like this Ed White. Who knows. Maybe it gets me back to owning a Speedy? I'm not sure I've read our dear Art chime in on this one. Would love to read your take, Art.
