It’s official! Ed White on stainless steel with cal 321

 By: Seeks : January 7th, 2020-03:36
Looks like the first speedy for the year from Omega. I was forwarded this: 39.70 mm case in stainless steel, influenced by the same 3rd generation style that Ed White wore, features a bezel ring in polished black ceramic [ZrO2] with a tachymeter scale in ...

That's a superb Speedmaster, and that movement!

 By: VMM : January 7th, 2020-03:41
SIze is perfect too. I like it a lot. Thanks. Vte

my pleasure dear vte [nt]

Fauxtina. Why fauxtina!?

 By: r0gue : January 7th, 2020-03:50
I love the 321 and the Omega Speedmaster Professional. Man I wish they could have restrained the urge to add fauxtina.

I really like it too, first time I like a Speedmaster

 By: Tyo : January 7th, 2020-03:51
it'll be a limited edition?

Not limited! 👍🏻😉 [nt]

 By: MCG (Markus) : January 7th, 2020-14:08

I love this

 By: Boris : January 7th, 2020-03:57
For some reason I can't really explain to myself, I've never owned an Omega. This could be the model that gives me the urge to get one. Unless, of course, they are using the 321 caliber as an excuse to sell it at twice the price of the regular Speedmaster...

Hi Boris, yes much agreed , the visuals and movement are attractive

 By: Seeks : January 7th, 2020-04:17
Indications are that it will be easily double the price of a moonwatch with sapphire ... 🙁

Oh well...

 By: Boris : January 7th, 2020-06:17
...it will be a pass, then. At that price, I can think of a number of watches I would own before I got a Speedmaster.

It always like they do this on purpose...

By: Pour le Mérite : January 7th, 2020-04:03
...using fake patina to prevent too much interest.

So...which caliber do you guys prefer?

 By: hoseachandra : January 7th, 2020-04:50
A caliber 321 or caliber 3861 master chronometer? Tough decision for me. The 3861 has co-axial on the robust caliber 1861 which is proven bulletproof. The 321 has the old, nostalgic charm, but I guess they are less reliable than 1861 (correct me if i'm wr...

Good question! Can’t decide 😄

 By: Seeks : January 7th, 2020-05:14
Perhaps starting with 321 for nostalgia and reissues and 3861 for modern ones ? Best regards

I'm waiting for a Mk II re-issue . . .

 By: Dr No : January 8th, 2020-09:29
. . . powered by cal 3861. Steel back, black dial. < $10K. And prepared to wait as long as it takes. ...

That would be sweet. I love the current mark II

 By: hoseachandra : January 20th, 2020-22:59
But always hesitate because of the thickness of caliber 3330 Dubois Depraz module. And I hope they reduce the diameter to be 39-40 mm. And retain the current bracelet (which is very smooth and comfortable)

Well, there are lots of column wheel chronographs out there...

By: Pour le Mérite : January 7th, 2020-05:28
...but there are barley any cam-actuated chronographs and even less with co-axial escapement.

I understand. But still....beside the historical thing,

 By: hoseachandra : January 8th, 2020-01:08
I don't see any advantages of 321 in terms of technology nor reliability over the caliber 1861, let alone the 3861, which at least will have more magnetic resistance and stability rate compared to the 1861. Another thing which is subjective, is that I pre...

Nice, however, too expensive...

 By: @lberti : January 7th, 2020-05:42
CHF 13K.... For that price, one could get the gold ck2998 😎

Yeah...

 By: Seeks : January 7th, 2020-06:05
A lot of very nice competitors at that level!

Voila! [nt]

 By: @lberti : January 7th, 2020-06:53

In contrary. [nt]

 By: @lberti : January 7th, 2020-09:41

I got the same email as you, and I feel that this might be the Speedy for me...

 By: ZSHSZ : January 7th, 2020-06:00
Do you know the crystal is sapphire or hesalite?

Hi Z !

 By: Seeks : January 7th, 2020-06:06
Sapphire crystal for this one

My pleasure, Z !

 By: Seeks : January 7th, 2020-06:32
13K chf and looks like not a limited edition.. Best regards

Too bad!!! [nt]

 By: amanico : January 7th, 2020-06:40

Yes, not traditional...

 By: Seeks : January 7th, 2020-06:46
Just a thought, would you have preferred hesalite on the back too?

Bravo

 By: Mr.Gatsby : January 7th, 2020-06:31
Need to see this one in the flesh to confirm if I’m going to buy one. But I have to say this Speedy is The One. The Ed White is really iconic in the entire lineage in my humble opinion due to the baton hands and smaller case (39 i/o of 42). I was going to...

Many congrats in advance 😀

 By: Seeks : January 7th, 2020-06:41
And it is not an LE, so we have a little bit more time to wait for see one in the flesh too. Best regards

Fantastic job on this one

 By: ctzn : January 7th, 2020-06:41
Love the restraint of a simple "speedmaster" on the back. Would prefer a brushed surface along the top of the lugs, but can't deny the overall beauty of this one.

Back to basics

 By: Jurry : January 7th, 2020-07:24
And so beautiful

Like it but price is a bit excessive for me for a speed master.

 By: K-Lo : January 7th, 2020-07:26
Not sure I like the gold plating on movement either. I am sure it will sell like hot cakes, or has the potential. Speed master bubble next??? I like the new 300 great white though.

I do like that. [nt]

 By: K-Lo : January 7th, 2020-10:04

This is the ONE that I have been waiting for and probably others as well...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : January 7th, 2020-08:21
I already have 2 vintage Ed Whites but due to lack of parts for servicing and trying to replace it if anything happens, I rarely wear it. This is the reason I prefer modern watches to vintage models, regardless of brand or model. With this modern re-editi...

Exactly! [nt]

 By: massi. : January 7th, 2020-13:03

Looks like Omega will be having a great year...

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 7th, 2020-10:25
With the Bond 25, this Ed White 321 and the Apollo 13 50th anniversary. Some say this will be Omega’s answer to Rolex Daytona, hmmm....

IMHO, this modern 321 Ed White trumps ANY modern Daytona for a number of reasons which I would happily debate with any Daytona fan...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : January 7th, 2020-10:32
I actually have more than a dozen Daytonas ranging from vintage (6239, 6263, 6265), Zeniths (16520), modern (116520), and ceramics (116500LN) and again there is NO comparison for me. This modern 321 trumps them all for rarity, history, quality, looks, etc...

True but something tells me the vintage Omega Speedmaster market will be changing with this 321 Ed White...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : January 7th, 2020-10:43
And like I stated prior, I would much prefer to wear a MODERN re-edition with modern technology and materials which could be serviced without issues. So I guess having BOTH the vintage and modern references would be the clear answer 😉😁

Voilà 😉😁👍 [nt]

 By: holdemchamp1225 : January 7th, 2020-10:45

;) [nt]

 By: amanico : January 7th, 2020-10:49

Tell me about it, I had to pay £1200 for a vintage service and 8 months wait [nt]

 By: Miranda : January 7th, 2020-11:52
Give me a 5 year warranty 50m WR sapphire crystal any day

Do you also own many Omega Speedmasters then?

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 7th, 2020-11:09
If Daytona’s are not as desirable, may I know why you collect this many? Don’t get me wrong, that’s an awesome list and congrats as they are all very sort after 👍🏻

The short answer is yes I have just as many Speedmaster as Daytonas...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : January 7th, 2020-11:22
The long answer is more complicated and I could discuss it with you in private if you like as I do not know if it is appropriate to do so here 🤷‍♂️ I would like to make one correction. I never said that the Daytona was less collectible than a Speedmaster....

That's right....you have both the Apollo 11 50th...

 By: Clueless_Collector : January 7th, 2020-12:40
so like yourself, I also own both Rolex and Omega but are all moderns. It'll be nice to discuss your experience in private PM, whenever you have time.

Sent you a PM [nt]

 By: holdemchamp1225 : January 7th, 2020-12:49

I suspect Omega is trying to compete against the Daytona, or create their own Daytona.

 By: Catulle : January 7th, 2020-11:37
Create scarcity, fill social media and specialized sites with smart copy, a high price, and laugh your way to the bank. I wonder if it’ll work. At least legibility is better than is the case with the Daytona. Who knows. ...

Maybe but...

 By: holdemchamp1225 : January 7th, 2020-11:49
if we sit back and think about this a moment we can make a better assessment. Rolex has been producing their 4130 caliber since 2000. So we can say they probably made anywhere from 20,000 - 25,000 caliber 4130s per year (SS and PM models). Now multiply th...

Humm... It’s kind’a sad to consider demand based on scarcity created by the manufacturer, and the “need” created by...

 By: Catulle : January 7th, 2020-13:11
...the Internet. That said, there are so many Speedmaster renditions and numbers that only a few true collectors and many Internet junkies will kill for the new 321..., in my useless opinion 🤓. I was just holding my regular Moonwatch Professional (first w...

I guess you were not around in the late 70s and early 80s when no one wanted a Daytona 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

 By: holdemchamp1225 : January 7th, 2020-13:21
people seem to forget that the modern Rolex phenomenon (shortage) started around 2015 and the desire to have a modern Daytona started with the Zenith-based Daytonas. Before that, dealers were literally GIVING AWAY 4 digit Daytonas if you bought a Day Date...

Oh, I remember. 😂. Indeed, the Internet does funny things to people’s minds. 🤪. I wonder how thick will the new 321 be.

 By: Catulle : January 7th, 2020-14:19
The other smaller Speedmaster (38.5mm ?) look chunky. Again, I also wonder about Omega vs Rolex. Then was then, now is now, so to speak. Let’s sit back comfortably and watch history unfold. Hey, cheers. 👍👍

Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

 By: Seeks : January 7th, 2020-21:40
I like this.. And the speedy too ! Warmest regards

Heavy hitter [nt]

 By: Passionata_george : January 7th, 2020-16:15

Still trying to process this one..

 By: Echi : January 7th, 2020-19:20
Initially I thought it had the makings of being Omega's version of the Daytona. Then I realized it did not. There is a single mindedness to the Daytona catalog that is absent in the Speedmaster. There is no lower priced version of the Daytona with a less ...

For me: 100% top watch, who knows already the best watch of 2020

 By: ambel : January 7th, 2020-22:26
39,8mm Beautiful vintage rendition But most of all: amazing calibre 321 Everyone agrees that this reference is the most anticipated Speedmaster of the last decade(s) Only discussion topic is the price range. Let's not forget that the Apollo 50th anniversa...

Agree completely Alex [nt]

I have a question for the connoisseurs - were 321 "adjusted" I don't see a stamp saying unadjusted

 By: Francoamerican : January 8th, 2020-14:55
I have a question for the connoisseurs - were 321 "adjusted?" I don't see a stamp saying unadjusted like on some of the inexpensive versions of the 2310 but i don't see adjustment indications either? thanks I am really excited to see this watch!

It looks awesome !!

 By: DrStrong : January 10th, 2020-22:40
I had heard that Omega would only use the 321 for gold watches....but that re-issue is a brilliant idea !
