Jaeger-LeCoultre

A warm 'thank you', Polaris 68 . . .

. . . I understand that this is your first visitation to The Purists / PuristSPro, and perhaps you're not aware of the underlying premise of our forum: the model for behavior is the same as one would expect at a dinner party, and the moderator acts not only as a referee, but also as a host. From Nicolas's perspective, your entry to the forum was equivalent to an unknown person showing up at a dinner party and immediately issuing complaints; it would be boorish behavior at a dinner party, and is similarly viewed here. You're in a disadvantageous position because you are unknown . . . had you been a regular visitor here and established your bona fides as a collector, Nicolas's reception would likely have been more tolerant. At the very least, you could have opened by introducing yourself and posting photos of your collection before coming to your point so that Nicolas would know that you are not simply trying to create a disturbance in his forum.

I was a guest recently at a party where I didn't know the host . . . I had been invited by another guest who was familiar enough with both the host and myself that he knew that I would be a welcome addition to the party. Had I made a remark that drew the offense of the host, I would have immediately apologized and left the party if it appeared that the host was agitated by my presence, even if my remark was accidental or unintended. We all understand that neither your nor Nicolas's native language is English, but an apology, if heartfelt, transcends the boundaries of mistrust and misunderstanding. Please consider my remarks in the constructive manner that I am trying to convey . . . it is very difficult to have frank discussions over the Internet because context, tone, and inflection are non-existent, but I hope I'm making my point clearly. Cordially, Art
