Great artists are frequently not great people.
To the extent one views fine watches as a form of art, my opinion is that the watches be considered on their own merits. Now, if one dislikes a watchmaker becausehe won't fix problems that might arise, that is a practical consideration that might interfere legitimately.
Many great painters, sculptors, composers, and authors have reportedly been total jerks, but I won't let that stand in the
way of my enjoying their work. However, I did notice a lot of people enjoying Michael Jackson's music again publicly after he died and was no longer frequenting courtrooms.
That said, push comes to shove, though I might appreciate the watches made by a jerk, I probably wouldn't buy one. (Well, at least not while he was still alive.)
As for wonderful guys who make watches I don't like, I can say that most the
wonderful people I know in the world don't produce anything I wish to purchase. Being kind, decent, and honest is admirable, but it has little to do with whether you can produce art of any quality.
