Many thanks for your nice message bringing new light onto your predicament. I did not know you were such a keen and faithful collector of Patek Philippe. Sorry about that. That changes everything. It is only now that I can see the dilemma that your are facing. Personally, I could not see myself being 'unfaithful' to my favourite watchmaker on this important occasion, and my interest for watches can by no means compare to the breath and depth of your passion of all things Patek. I also understand your closing remark. I would seek to get yet another one in the collection, possibly the crowning piece.
It makes full sense to take your time and check out the work of the artisans that you mentionned at the Salon QP, such a pity I cannot make it this year for I'd gladly meet you, but I doubt you will change your mind/ I could make you change your mind. 
I hope it will be, it certainly should be, a very pleasurable experience. I hope you will take your time and I have no doubt you will make the right choice. As we say in French, choisir c'est renoncer, but frankly wichever of these 2 aforementioned watches you discard, another wonderful watch will be yours, your precious yours.

RW Smith watches are actually out performing Pateks of a similar age in the used market and at auctions. It is all down to the supply and demand and the long waiting list for his watches. Only Daniels and Philippe Dufour do as well if not better.

For the very reason that you have already mentioned; much more likely for Patek to be around in the years to come. I also like the calendar function of the Patek and knowing so many parts are involved to make it work. Good luck with your decision.

I think the Patek would be the safe bet but I am also partial to the fact that the RW Smith is more exclusive and hand made to the nth degree!

Both models easily make it into my grail watch list! But Roger Smith is definitely on top of that list. More specifically: Series 2, white gold, blued hour/minute hands, white gold power reserve hand. A George Daniels will do too

Yes indeed, I think they are two different propositions when you start exploring. Some of Smiths videos are remarkable in particular his Guilloche techniques.

One point to consider is currency.

Roger Smith without a doubt. Although PP is a good watch it cannot hold a candle to Roger. Roger makes about 15 pieces a year. No more. That leads to extreme exclusivity.

When I have talked with roger, he thinks not of just the present or the near future but also the distant future. He makes a traditional watch with traditional material with the idea that a future watchmaker will be able to service the watch and make parts

I do respectfully disagree. Roger has the capability to do the whole gamut of complications. He has the calendar now. He has done a tourbillon. I did ask him about a perpetual and he said yes to it but it was a bit more than I wanted to spend.
As far as finishing in the Swiss way I agree Dufour is a master as is Kari but I would suggest looking at Romain Gauthier as well who has learned well from his mentor. Cheers

PP for me
The Smith, to me, looks too much like the (2014) Breguet Reserve de March. Nothing new to me design wise. While the PP is more subdued than its predecessors, it actually is a fun watch to wear. Down side is having to wind it everyday. Not an easy choice.
