Supply and demand...but what fuels demand is...perception. Not the perception of the wearer but the perception of others. They are status symbols. They are watches the wearer wants people to see them wearing. Better than all other watches (excluding maybe the Mille) ...no. But certainly more sought after. It is also true of certain stocks. How can similar companies have such dissimilar P/E ratios? The perception that others think it a “hot” stock.

I am guessing it is only a handful of models that commend such premiums. Within the industry as a whole that might be the equivalent of a few stocks going up in a bear market. A recent article in another publication reported that Swiss watch makers and re...

Is not about connoisseurship, ownership and collecting and is price and values. As such I don’t think that it in the spirit of the Purists.

These are a few examples and probably exaggerated ones at that. Of all the different watch models produced each year 99.9% of them sell below MSRP the moment they leave the store and frequently even before they leave the store. At the end of the day, the ...

Aside from the Royal Oak (and I already own one), none of the watches on that list interest me at all. But as others have said, that list represents but a tiny fraction of the watches available in the marketplace and most do not sell at such inflated pric...
I haven't tracked JLC list prices
By: logan2z : February 13th, 2019-17:15
So I wasn't aware that they increased them this year. On the flip side, they lowered them a couple of years ago - not long after I'd purchased a couple at the previous, higher prices. That didn't make me all that happy, but I figure I wore them and enjoye...

How many times is a 5711 bought and sold among dealers before it gets to the final customer? Is this what’s driving up the price? Either way I would not pay over list price for any of them but I would not begrudge anyone if they did.
Supply and demand.

With the exception of a small group of ardent collectors like us, this is essentially a luxury jewelry market as there is no practical need for a mechanical watch. And for the 6 pieces under discussion, there’s certainly speculative trading, but also a lo...

Many of the fine watches I own, I learned of them on these forums or elsewhere on the Internet. So thank you. But when FOMO hits, I turn my thoughts equally wonderful, less beloved watches. For the record, I love the Royal Oak Jumbo. The others I like and...

Now when I see someone post one of these pieces, I mostly assume they own them for reasons not born from passion. Of course, many here and elsewhere were owners before the bubblicious prices, but all the hype and ego that is driving others to these partic...

I buy things because I like them. I must like them intrinsically but it also helps if I can identify with the brand ethos. Of course appreciation on a watches value doesn’t affect my lifestyle but as I am a professional investor I can’t always say the sam...

I do think there's too much cash on the market right now, and as the stock market stalled, people went for collectibles (watches, cars), but it wont last. Just wait a few months and when people who bought a Nautilus for 50k wont be able to sell it at a pr...
