It won't be easy to not vent, here...
We could say that, at the exception of a few ( limited ) examples, limited editions are limited in interest.
what is the interest of a limited edition for the Megeve Yacht Club, except the fact that thanks to this lilmited edtion, I learnt that there was a yacht club in Megeve, which was not evident for me?
More seriously, a lot of brands play the card of LEs.
To think it twice, I believe ALL the brands play this card, except Rolex, AFAIK...
There is no interest if it is not the base of a very high complication, or a very original watch, whose regular production may cause some problems, and in a very short batch, to keep all its meaning ( 100, or less is even better )
The other problem with LEs is that many times, we have LEs of LEs... See the JLC Amvox II, for instance, or the Panerai OORs, not to mention the APs or the Hublots, and many others.
It would be much smarter for the brands to limit the production of certain watches, to keep the desirability factor, like Rolex with the Daytona, for example, instead of this gimmick of rarity which is the LE concept.
So, for me, the LE won't make me jump on a watch, this is the watch which will make me jump on it.
You got it, I'm an anti LE... Even if I have some in my collection, but, once again, it is because I love them, not because they are LEs.
Best,
Nicolas.
