We can ask the ladies
Jun 13, 2020,09:28 AM
Many ladies like a fuss free, easy to service piece that is comfortable. Omega and Rolex have dominated this niche with the Lady Datejust, Constellation etc.
I reckon I can never convince my partner to wear another piece. She wears a datejust 24/7 and is not too worried about damaging it, because the after-sales servicing networks are strong for these 2 brands.
For many of us WIS (including me), we have degenerated into "working for the watch" instead of "watch working for us". For example, I would often be extra careful around table corners, elevator doors etc when wearing anything except my Tudor BB. My friends with Lange pieces have relegated those pieces to once a month wear or for special occasions, fearing dings, and damaging the case, and these same people actually wear Omegas or Rolexes or GSs for their daily wear instead, where they want the watch to "work for them" instead.
I liken it to car collectors, many of whom have a car they drive for all purposes, and a few other exotic cars they keep for weekend drives. The Rolex/Omegas are like a mid-luxury SUV, perhaps a Mercedes GLE, Porsche Cayenne or BMW X series. The other watches (independents, high horology, collectables) are perhaps like a Porsche 911 (can't take the kids on it), vintage Jaguar (fear of ruining the suspensions; parts hard to find). In Goldilocks terms, they are beds that are "too hard" or "too soft" whereas "just right" is the niche often filled by Omega/Rolex.
Have a great week ahead!
