I don‘t see much of a problem in such a collaboration in general. For me it‘s more of a question what they do in the collaboration and how many there are (collaborations not pieces)

A slightly altered version of a general release / watch from the current collection would be ok. A completely new design would be ok. Even a simultaneuos release of a slightly altered LE with the brands own LE would be ok. A slightly altered version of a LE, that’s been released before however, that‘s a no go. With or without collaboration.
As others have said already, Hodinkee even has it‘s own „strategy“ in these LE, often going for simpler, dateless versions of a watch. That‘s more than other collaborations have to offer.
I‘m not a big fan of Hodinkee (was a small fan of their talking watches videos back then), but they actually do seem to have a better plan, than some of the watch companies they are collaborating with.
