Really, the brands just haven't made anything interesting. Sure, at the $3 million US dollar price level, there are some interesting things - but most of those pieces are unwearable (too large). Look at 2024's trade show novelties at Watches and Wonders. Such a quiet year. 2023 was a quiet year except for two watches from Chopard (the 1860 and the Alpine Eagle XPS). Before that, I hadn't seen anything especially interesting since 2017, when Bulgari launched the Octo Finissimo automatic. And I'd also argue we're not seeing a lot of innovation. We're seeing very commercially viable projects. Safe bets. Maybe the risk takers have retired? Eric Coudray, the individual at JLC who was responsible for the Gyrotourbillon was forced out of JLC. Are the big brands resting on their laurels?
