Horological Meandering

Agree and I think social media and democratization dilutes the concept of quality irl and the understanding of what is good. Reminds me of music...

LP > Tapes > CDs > Minidisc / HD audio > MP3s > Streaming sad

Sound quality of music kept getting better and better until we traded definition for accessibility, variety, cost, and ease of use. My wife doesn't even understand why I keep large speakers and a big amp when we can play infinite music without lifting a finger on our amazon echo. Single dimensional relatively low quality images / videos and short form low attention span content will promoted by AI algos will continue to change our concept of what is good, just like music, and the brands will respond cutting the corners that can't be seen on insta and customers won't even know those corners were there..... until someday trying to explain those horological concepts to buyers will be like me trying to explain to my wife that music sounds better on the big speakers because she doesn't hear the difference.
