..let me explain why:
- the watch is the lowest value FF/Bathyscaphe iteration, the 38mm
- such an experiment already was conceded to Revolution watch a few years back and it was actually nicer, brown and all
- the message to me - and I am a huge Blancpain and FF lover , so sensitive to anything that cheapens either - is that Mr Hayek did very well in this case. He managed to increase awareness through the Hodinkee mass market PR platform (let’s be honest; Hodinkee is not for connoisseurs any more; this is a site for ‘Mr 0815’ as we say in Switzerland), but he did not devalue the FF (5015 and 5008) Crown Jewels, neither the Bathyscaphe lines. He simply let the Hodinkee folks sell the cheapest version of the Bathy by conceding them a dial design. Big deal I say.
Happy how Blancpain played this, showing that Hodinkee is as good as to sell its most basic Bathy.
Cheers,
Alex
