Today is an important day for my Volvo P1800E and myself. It is our 10th anniversary!

Sep 21, 2022,15:49 PM

10 years of joy, pride, and so many moments of pure happiness.

I never owned a car for so long. Most of the time, I keep a car for 3 or 4 years, with some notable exceptions, such as my first car, a VW Scirocco ( 6 years ), or my Volvo C 70 T5 ( 7 years ).

10 years was what I wished when I bought this P1800E on the 21st of September 2012. It seems that I will own use it some more years, if all goes well.

In 10 years, I made 65, 000 kilometers, with it. I had many road trips with it, in Belgium, Netherland,  Swiss, Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, South of France, Normandy, well, a faithful companion with very few issues encountered during all this time. And I go to work with it, in the different penitentiary centers, courts of justice, police stations and so on...

And what I like a lot is that this car is a great witness of what was the automotive world, which sadly belongs to a bygone era. The manual gearbox, the overdrive, the rear wheels drive, the smell of fuel, oil, leather, the instruments displayed in the dashboard, the dashboard... The absence of electronic assistance. Well, behind the wheel, you feel like a pilot, you are the only master on board, it is a relation between you and the car. It is all about that. Nothing else matters.

And cherry on the cake, everybody has a smile on his face when they cross the road of the Volvo P1800, even the police, the bikers. There is not one month when I don't meet someone who wants to buy it, or who tells " wow, this is the car I always dreamt of ". Exactly like I did, before realizing my dream.

The bad thing is that I see less and less P1800 on the roads or in the streets... These last three years, I didn't see one!

Long life to my car. I will offer it some mechanical and body repairs, to maintain it in good shape. It is really worth it.

Huge congrats Nico, like they said in the driving community "more smiles by the mile".

Cars don't bring joy having them rot in a garage but by driving them and creating memories with them.. Best, Jorge

My philosophy. Exactly!

I like the styling here. Also great that you keep using it. I agree, we will be losing the era where the smell of leather and oil and manuals were the nostalgia for most. To another 65k 👍

Congratulations for completing a great milestone with a wonderful car.

I agree with all your sentiments. Yes, I feel same with my present car, Camry, that has just completed 6 years and has become first car to cross 5 years with me in last 35 years.. Cars are more faithful than much hyped better halves!!

Style and class in one package.

Congrats on the 10. th. anniversary of this little beauty. I concur with all your points about a drivers car, where today the driver is almost a passanger in his/her own car.

You really should take a trip to the motherland of Sweden with your P 1800. There are still a bunch driving around up there. Enjoy!

Happy Anniversary!

Like our vintage watches, cars are witnesses of a time gone by.

They represent the state of technology, the art of engineering and mechanics, the esthetics of the period, and the savoir faire of craftsmen from designers to painters. It is important to keep these beasts alive and show them to the world. In the end, the...

Modern cars certainly won’t last as long.

The systems to maintain/update the software won’t be around 52 years from now. On the other hand, I love my Taycan as a daily driver and I wouldn’t want to switch for an ICE car. I look at it from the perspective that we need the Taycan to love the charms...

Yes, nicely said.

I’m still cautiously optimistic that we are not on the brink of automotive “mechanical obsolescence” as is claimed by many; I believe I’ve made my views on this matter readily apparent 😉. Love everything about this car. Continue to drive it smiling and in...

Let's hope so, my friend.

You never own anything... You merely look after it until the next owner comes along. Well, seems this car is getting some good looking after!

Merci beaucoup, mon ami.

I live in California...

 By: mdg : September 22nd, 2022-17:04
...which is great for classic cars (no humidity and good weather)... There are many incredible classic cars in the Bay Area.

Buying a used car that lived its life in California...

By: mdg : September 22nd, 2022-21:05 usually a good bet, unless it was close to the ocean...

It was in great shape.

Joyful post, Nicolas. Let's be honest -

All of these treasures are temporary in the grand scheme of things. They don't travel with you past your days on Earth. So to find ones that are ultra special, to enjoy on a regular basis, this is what is all about. Cars, watches, guns, what have you... "...

Indeed Sir.
