WS for 9th of November - ‘Stealthiest watch you own’ is live

Nov 08, 2018,11:02 AM

As announced yesterday, the topic will be ‘Stealthiest watch you own’, however you choose to interpret it. A watch with under appreciated tremendous value, a watch that no one but the most knowledgeable will recognise on the street, a watch looking like it has radar absorbent qualities, a watch you would not be afraid to take to the wrong side of the tracks...

For me this is both an easy and a complicated theme at the same time. I largely choose my watches to not be easily recognisable outside the Purists spheres and I enjoy the relative anonymity it affords. But that also means I have several that might qualify.

After some thought here are two candidates. First up the Grand Seiko SBGH035. At 300 pieces not as rare as some Wako editions but unrecognisable enough for the regular person (given how often I post it here, that is probably not the case at WPS wink). I generally find GS to be great at this game, with only a minuscule fraction of people, even those with a moderate interest in watches, knowing what it is. Here you have a Special, Hi-Beat in steel, with a radar absorbing dial... wink

The second one I went for is the Seiko SCVL002. It sports Seiko’s thinnest mechanical movement (the 6810A at 1,98 mm), is very minimalistic in design (and at 33mm in size, too) and has a very alluring feature - a shaped movement in a round watch. And it’s practically unknown outside Japan smile

Really looking forward to seeing your entries and wishing you all a great weekend!

 By: Spangles : November 8th, 2018-14:51

Very cool COS!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-15:43
Love the minimalism of the crown operated chrono here and the colour scheme is sublime Very stealthy for sure!

I think a lot of my watches are ,, stealth,,

 By: Watchonthewrist : November 8th, 2018-13:33
Outside this forum and IG i think 99% dont know what i wear on my wrist most of the days ( just the way i like it 😉) The most stealth watch in my collection is my Urwerk i think But my Staudt will also qualify i guess ! ...

Two superb choices, Watchonthewrist!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-15:47
The Urwerk is a very F-117 choice and the Staudt definitely flies right under every radar, too Have a great weekend!

Thanks 🤗 [nt]

 By: Watchonthewrist : November 9th, 2018-21:50

In many ways even stealthier than the steel one...

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-15:45
Superb GS you have here! Not seen much of the ‘new’ GS Specials yet, so if you have some time for a couple of more pictures and an impression from the owners perspective that would be great!

There are none so blind as those who will not see

 By: Uncle Chico : November 8th, 2018-11:31
I've worn this with short sleeves which I usually do not do with my watches. So far no one is the wiser. ...

Fantastic Cellini, UncleChico!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-15:49
It’s quite an achievement for a Rolex to be stealthy but this one is most certainly it

Fine Rolex, Chico. [nt]

 By: amanico : November 8th, 2018-15:59

As many sharp angles as a Night Hawk!

 By: Timeout : November 8th, 2018-11:49
...

That's stealthy, wow [nt]

 By: brauner : November 8th, 2018-15:03

And you’re certainly right with the Octo

How can I play...

 By: amanico : November 8th, 2018-11:55
This one, maybe? ...

Gorgeous Geophysic

 By: old_school : November 8th, 2018-12:12
My favorite dial variant, as well.

Great JLC ! [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : November 8th, 2018-14:42

It’s certainly a treasure [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : November 8th, 2018-14:58

That makes it extra special [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : November 8th, 2018-23:55

Yep. [nt]

 By: amanico : November 9th, 2018-00:54

A perfect specimen, Nico!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-15:51
And a superb specimen of stealth, even if there’s not a single sharp edge in sight Well played!

Not necessary to have edges to be stealthy...

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-16:03
But if you have something I would be very excited to see it

What a crazy JLC, Nico...

 By: thegrailwatch : November 8th, 2018-16:22
I have never seen anything like that before from the brand.

Agree!! [nt]

 By: Subexplorer : November 9th, 2018-11:25

I have had the pleasure of seeing this JLC live...

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-21:44
And it’s an intriguing piece for sure! And you certainly fulfilled my hopes that someone would post a Royal Oak, Nico - in terms of design it fits right into the radar absorbent school of thought, even if it is very recognisable

Game over

 By: Uncle Chico : November 9th, 2018-00:38
That JLC is not only stealth, it looks like it could fly.

Thanks, Uncle. [nt]

 By: amanico : November 9th, 2018-04:43

It might have to ! [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : November 10th, 2018-11:23

 By: amanico : November 9th, 2018-11:35

Such a beauty and understated elegance, which is stealthy!

 By: timerider : November 9th, 2018-15:24
Let's see what cryptic piece I might have to make it through the stealth radar. a watch for a stealthy night with a great alarm (so I can have a little rest). Best to you all, Tim ...

A PAM with an alarm is certainly not something one expects - a great choice!

 By: KMII : November 10th, 2018-11:34
Very cool piece. Which movement does it use?

Or perhaps this one - so stealthy it's almost impossible to see the hands!

 By: Timeout : November 8th, 2018-12:00
........ or the two movements. ...

Black is stealthy [nt]

 By: brauner : November 8th, 2018-15:05

The second great choice, Timeout!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-15:53
In addition to the looks it’s especially the fact that there are two movements inside that make it qualify

Smartly played! [nt]

 By: amanico : November 10th, 2018-03:30

Now that’s stealthy ! [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : November 10th, 2018-11:24

Tre Tacche

 By: old_school : November 8th, 2018-12:14
In an 'oversized' 35 mm case. ...

You are a master at finding superb backgrounds for your Longines!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-15:55
Another fantastic shot of it

Thanks!

 By: old_school : November 8th, 2018-17:23
Truth be told, I am a terrible photographer, but I can find my way around Photoshop. Once I actually get a decent photo, I try to make the best of it.

Thank you, sir. [nt]

 By: old_school : November 9th, 2018-14:03

Great photos 👍 [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : November 8th, 2018-14:44

Both really great examples, Jocke!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-15:56
The PanoInverse especially giving off a Steampunk stealth vibe

What's the first one jocke?

 By: traineract : November 9th, 2018-07:16
Looks really cool

Thanks, super cool [nt]

 By: traineract : November 9th, 2018-07:26

Great topic, sure to generate a variety of responses

 By: tick-talk : November 8th, 2018-14:22
Inspired by your stealth fighter post yesterday, I'll share my "Sea Shadow" Overseas chronometer. As you know, the Overseas line was inspired by nautical travel, with an image of the Amerigo Vespucci sailing vessel engraved on the back. This one, with cus...

This is definitely a great contender!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-15:58
Love how your Overseas fits the theme, combining both the colour and sharp angles of the case - well played!

stacking the deck

 By: tick-talk : November 8th, 2018-18:49
A few more stealthy shots... ...

Very cool! [nt]

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-21:34

Thanks a lot, Cpt Scarlet!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-15:58
Glad you like it

It’s a superb Seiko [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : November 8th, 2018-23:55

Certainly is my favourite :)

 By: KMII : November 10th, 2018-11:35

I will join in

ROFL 🤣 [nt]

 By: KMII : November 11th, 2018-06:12

Two excellent choices, Quan!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-16:00
Depending on the country the car choice is even stealthier than the Richard Lange!

Thank you

 By: Quan : November 8th, 2018-19:04
You are right, down here not that many people aware of A. Lange

Agree....timeless [nt]

 By: Quan : November 8th, 2018-22:35

Easily this one...

 By: jporos : November 8th, 2018-15:09
this was its 'box'. HAGWE! ...

Too good! ;) [nt]

 By: amanico : November 8th, 2018-15:16

The epitome of horological stealth for sure!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-16:01
Superb choice, Jporos. The packaging, the design, the hidden complications...

I knew an MIH would show up on this thread

 By: thegrailwatch : November 8th, 2018-16:26
One of the all time coolest, and stealthiest complicated watches. I hope to have one someday

You’re absolutely right!

 By: KMII : November 10th, 2018-11:37
And I hope to join one day, too

Two mih in the thread! [nt]

 By: jml_watches : November 9th, 2018-11:27

Couldn’t be more stealthy!

 By: nitediver : November 11th, 2018-02:31
Did you pick it up in Luzern?

A very much below the radar piece

 By: halkcb : November 8th, 2018-18:17
my one and only simple credor And one which would be anonymoius except for its bezel very discreet best HAGWE henry ...

Two very interesting choices, Henry!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-21:37
In terms of stealth the Credor is a natural winner I wouldn’t have expected the Cartier but maybe that’s exactly what makes it qualify - crept right up on us

Very nice Seiko [nt]

 By: Quan : November 8th, 2018-19:01

You can’t get more stealth than this...

 By: GreatPilot@me.com : November 8th, 2018-19:56
...

Well played 👌🏻 [nt]

 By: Watchonthewrist : November 8th, 2018-21:33

Very cool 😎 [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : November 10th, 2018-11:26

Stealth is my middle name

 By: cazalea : November 8th, 2018-20:01
Cazalea ...

Now that’s an unexpected yet superb choice, Mike!

 By: KMII : November 8th, 2018-21:39
It’s the plastic case Benrus, IIRC, right?

Absolutely correct, Mr Moderator!

 By: cazalea : November 9th, 2018-06:17
You have a good memory Mike

Thanks a lot, Mike :)

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-06:46

In fact, it started my little Crosshairs theme & I am still loving it since that day-1.. Best, hs

Hmmhh.. To tell the truth, I’ve been playing with the thought, maybe mid December ?..

 By: hs111 : November 9th, 2018-01:00
Just have to check a couple things at home after my return from our yearly stay in SA before.. But if I may, I’ll keep you posted. Best, hs PS: Another time might be early next year (?).. We’ll see..

Yes, Thx ! .. Of course I would really like to.. It’s just to check &/or postpone some commitments after my return for that month..

 By: hs111 : November 9th, 2018-01:39
.. I would be more than happy, as it really has been quite a while now, - to see you, watches & my dear love, the City of Lights ! Cheers € Best, hs. PS: BTW: also, my list to bring has been getting somewhat long (but I kept record..)

GP Crosshair is a superb choice, HS!

 By: crown comfort : November 9th, 2018-02:06

Thx a lot my dear CC !.. Coming from you is always quite special to me !.. My very Best &..

HAGWE to you & yours !! PS: Hmmhh.. Just realized by coincidence I seemingly have passed the 15 K threshold ! Well - it always has been a pleasure and still is, also mainly because of good friends like yourself and kind rothers-in- Arms here !.. Thank you...

Congratulations on the 15k, HS!

 By: KMII : November 11th, 2018-06:15

The theme seems to suit you really well, HS!

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-02:40
Be it the supremely stealthy MIH, the Crosshairs, the Memovox or the Doppel Felix - all are likely to either fly under the radar or at the very least not reflect a clear signal back - really well played! Have a great time in SA!

Likewise, HS :)

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-05:41
Been too long since the last live meeting - something we should recfity upon your return!

With pleasure !.. Let’s see whether we three again come up with something..

 By: hs111 : November 9th, 2018-05:49
.. before year’s end !.. Best, hs

The mih is pure stealth

 By: traineract : November 9th, 2018-07:15
It's already conceptually supposed to be stealth. A great choice

My watch which hides it's qualities

 By: brauner : November 8th, 2018-23:02
Daniel JeanRichard Highlands. ...

This is a really interesting piece, Brauner!

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-02:38
Not sure I have seen this one before - and if you could share some more info that would be highly welcome!

DJR ., very cool 😎 [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : November 10th, 2018-11:29

Simple. Elegant. Stealth.

 By: crown comfort : November 9th, 2018-02:00
How about, something simple, yet elegant that fits nicely under the cuff and can easily go stealth. Like the Girard-Perregaux 2532 manual wind tank from the early 90s. CC ...

A fantastic choice, CC!

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-02:37
Wasn't aware of the 2532 and it looks highly appealing - just the right size for a rectangular watch, too! Is the case back curved?

Very cool!

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-02:52
A feature that makes many GP watches extremely comfortable to wear

Does this stealthy mystery watch count here?

 By: chippyfly : November 9th, 2018-02:07
I have no idea who manufactured this inherited watch and the case is a 1960 Dutch 2½ guilder coin. Best Clive ...

Certainly does!

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-02:35
I hope one of our Dutch mmbers might have an idea of who the maker was. Very interesting piece for sure - thanks for sharing it!

Zenith El Primero cal 40.0 in disguise

 By: chippyfly : November 9th, 2018-02:37
HAGWE! Clive ...

An excellent disguise it is, too!

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-02:53
Helping to maintain the ElPrimero in production long enough for the the market to pick up again - great choice!

Well played

 By: traineract : November 9th, 2018-07:14
Well disguised

Stealth in two ways, your Moser :)

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-05:40

 By: amanico : November 9th, 2018-06:44

gorgeous dark side [nt]

 By: Gelato Monster : November 10th, 2018-03:36

Shape wise it's reflecting radar energy quite nicely :)

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-06:45
And colour wise it could be called stealthy, too IMHO that definitely qualifies it as one...

Hello dear KM!! Very interesting theme for this week end!! Stealthy watches make for an important part of my collection and my enjoyment of wearing watches...

 By: Subexplorer : November 9th, 2018-07:00
... as the securitity in the streets of my City makes wearing easy to spot watches like Rolex or other high end popular brands a very risky matter. A stealthy watch means in my book a timepiece which brings me a lot of satisfaction when I view it on my wr...

Great choice!

 By: JLCman : November 9th, 2018-07:39
Especially I like the old Ingenieurs like your 666 😎👍🏻

What can I say, Abel!

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-08:34
These are all different but equally interesting choices - stealth comes in many different forms It also seems that various brands will be perceived differently in various parts of the world. Where I would see Zenith as relatively 'visible' in at least som...

Thank you so much for your kind comments KM!! Rolex are highly coveted down here by robbers and snatchers along he streets. Zenith watches on the contrary, are almost unknown...

Funny how certain brands...

 By: KMII : November 10th, 2018-11:40
Have very different recognition levels depending on location. Glad it’s that way - this allows us to enjoy a certain anonymity with our watches wherever we are

GS - still very much under the radar

 By: jml_watches : November 9th, 2018-11:30
Which adds to their appeal Cheers JML

Agree! [nt]

 By: Subexplorer : November 11th, 2018-07:57

 By: brauner : November 9th, 2018-07:04
Black, bold, very technical appearance. ...

Interesting choice

 By: traineract : November 9th, 2018-07:17
A stealth bomber kind of choice

I was awaiting one :)

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-08:29
This one certainly delivers on all counts, Brauner - excellent choice!

My submission for stealth watch

 By: traineract : November 9th, 2018-07:12
While the Purists crowd is very familiar with this piece, most people around me do not know about Speake Marin. Hence it's a joy to wear it because I can personally enjoy it thoroughly, without much distractions from hovering eyes (usually the Rolexes get...

Fantastic choice, Traineract!

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-08:28
Love PSM pieces and yours is certainly one that will not raise the pulse in any but the initiated Cool shot, too!

Thank you!

 By: traineract : November 9th, 2018-09:42
Hope it raised your pulse rate!

It regularly does!

 By: KMII : November 10th, 2018-11:42

Thanks amanico :) [nt]

My third play at this stealthy theme

 By: chippyfly : November 9th, 2018-08:08
Wearing this low key Longines Jamboree cal 280 (bought at auction as the only bidder without reserve and with its obvious refinished dial) because this evening I am attending a concert in Oxford and will be walking through rather insalubrious dark areas t...

Now this is stealthy as well as educational, Clive :)

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-08:26
To be honest, I am not sure I knew the model existed in the first place but it's nice to get all the additional details with it, too Thanks for that!

Sequel

 By: chippyfly : November 10th, 2018-03:28
My Longines and I survived walking through Oxford last night and the Sheldonian concert was great. Sadly two members of the approximately 500 audience collapsed with sudden illness and were carried away. No news of their recovery. Clive

Too bad...

 By: KMII : November 10th, 2018-11:43
I hope they recover quickly! It seems your Longines has passed the stealth trials with aplomb, though

Beautiful Longines ! [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : November 10th, 2018-11:32

Another stealthy candidate in the Hublot...

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-12:26
The almost monochrome finish certainly adding to its stealth, even if not universally improving legibility. Cool choice

Stealth...? Maybe something like this....

Hi All A couple of watches that slide under the radar Reverso Duo - think I've only ever had one comment about it & that was from someone who's father was a jeweller. The other one dips below radar as it's vintage A Lanco Fon also dips under the radar as ...

The Duo is a classic...

 By: KMII : November 9th, 2018-21:17
But certainly looks stealthy from this side The Lanco Fons are quite an interesting alarm pairing!

As I said the other day...

This one's easy

 By: Boris : November 9th, 2018-18:53
It's precisely its stealth that made it a commercial failure when it came out. ...

Great entry, Boris...

Very good choice, Claes. [nt]

This is displaying my frustration in buying a watch that NO ONE ELSE HAS EVER SEEN. Can't be a good sign... Forgot to ask, have you got a pen? ...

Another great Lemania!

Looks to be same base calibre as in the GP/MIMO Large Date's from that period: FHF 29 (8 ¾ - 12’’’). www.watchprosite.com Best Blomman

Same? Yes, suspected that!

What a superb piece, Stefan!

Probably this 2.....

I guess most vintage watches possess a certain element of stealth to the uninitiated and GS - vintage or modern does so by definition. Nice shots!

Thanks KMII :) [nt]
