It is just a MORE special watch. If you don't really know the significance of the Moonshine and how it is a re-edition of the original from 1969 which was the 1st gold Speedmaster and how it was presented to Astronauts, world leaders, etc...then you might want to read up on the history. Just this point would sway me over but it is one of MANY.
The Moonshine IS the superior watch technically. It is also more durable and well as more resistant to magnetism and shock. I also prefer the matte finish and tone of the Moonshine YG which is less "blingy" than the YG of the Daytona. The green dial of the Daytona is awesome BUT the dial of the Moonshine is solid gold and even more special due to the details: onyx hour markers, applied logo, etc...The ceramic bezel of the Moonshine is also a special red with Moonshine gold numerals. Compared that to the standard gold bezel of the Daytona and you can see the difference without much effort.
The polished center links have little to nothing to do with my decision and I actually like the contrast. We are ALL biased due to our preferences, influences, etc...The point of this exercise was to choose one based on merits, looks, heritage, etc...
Again, my choice was clear and easy. Fortunate I can choose both and I have π
Lastly, I have to disagree with you saying that Rolex always trumps Omega. That is definitely not true, especially in the past 5 - 6 years. We have to try and remain objective and look at each watch based on their merits and not just base it on herd mentality or marketing.
Try this: remove the name on the dial. Base your decision on the technical info, merits, looks, design, movement, etc...
You might be surprised which one you choose π
