... I really feel that the 5512/5513 reference deserved a thread like this.
You know about my long love afair with the 5513, started in 1966. That was the dream of a child come true, and my love for Submariners and Rolex which I still keep in my heart.
I love the looks of the clean dial non-cosc 5512, or the 5513. Even a plain and common 5513 with no frills or special characteristics, is something to fall in love with.
Nor to mention "specials" with gilt, gloss, minute rail, dots, bar, etc. etc.!
A 5513 is a workhorse, a noble, tough, dependable watch you can trust.
I feel it epitomizes the past references spirit (non crown guards models) with the "new generation" of divers (5513/1680) which later where copied by many, many other brands making diving watches.
If we look for a connection with some cool Movie Stars, the 5512 got it with Steve "Mr. Cool" Mc Queen, and the 5513 was sometime the James Bond watch, in liew of its non guards predecesor.
I can´t find more words to express what I feel for the 5512/13, except: I LOVE them!!
I presently own only two examples, a "plain vainilla" 1978 and a Gilt-gloss-dot 1964 example I showed here a few weeks ago. Now after a nice 5512 I saw a few weeks ago, which I can´t convince his owner to depart.
Great thread with great examples!! I enjoyed reading this thread so much!
Un abrazo afectuoso mi querido amigo... y termina pronto con tu "Plan GMT" para zambullirte en completar tu colección Submariner!!
No quiero imaginar las piezas con que acabarás formandola!!
Best cordial regards, Abel.
