You captured all the greatness of the 5235G so well. In my opinion, it is a very special watch: an exceptional execution that truly has to be seen in person, the first Patek Philippe regulator, and a tribute to the regulator clocks used by watchmakers at the Patek factory for years before one eventually ended up in the Stern family office.
A few years ago, I came across footage of TS explaining the sentimental significance of this watch, and you could clearly see the emotion in his words. That sentiment was echoed by one of the Patek Philippe salon directors when I bought mine. While picking up the watch, we were told that the head of the salon wanted to meet us personally just to explain how special this piece is.
The later rose gold execution is not to my taste, especially once you appreciate the originality of the first model and understand its significance. Another collector once described the 5235G as the ultimate modern sleeper, which I think is very accurate. It is my favorite Patek Philippe in my small collection, on par with my Nautilus 5712A.
Patek can still create truly unique designs, and that is why, despite its recurrent hiccups, it remains at the top of the game.
