Very succinct summary which I agree. I love chronographs and had a few panerai chronographs, but it is down to just one chrono, the Daylight PAM196. To me , I have come to realise that Panerai for me is like you have described so eloquently. I go for the ...

so what were these watches intended for? reliable, legible and waterproof for military use. Polished cases, precious metals, highly decorated movements, complications, exclusive numbers and outrageous prices... This is not DNA. Panerai DNA is now only ski...

I can tell you DNA suffers variations, being natural or induced ones. Even in nature, individuals of the very same species are full of genetical varations!!! That's what makes them more fit or resistant to illnes, climate variations and cosmic radiation a... 

A Panerai model that represents the "old" Panerai DNA is the PAM203. And a model that represents the "new" Panerai DNA is the PAM372. I feel Panerai's DNA is evolving towards in-house movements rather than the Unitas found in some of the Historic models. ...
