I guess having the right sized wrist helps making such a major decision.

But 36mm Breguets are nice, too.

42mm Breguets?? I struggle to wear 38mm Breguets no thanks to their straight lugs. For Breguets, 34mm to 36mm is ok for my wrist.

But I prefer buying new and fortunately there still are a few good watches at 36mm and 37mm!

A MOP Breguet chrono from a few years back, for example. Are there any that have caught your eye?

but my favourite vintage looking watch would be the Murakumo by Kikuchi Nakagawa which at 36.8mm seems perfect in size. The dial, hands and numerals are a work of art in that price category. the 35.5mm 5930 which has been in the collection for years. I do...

For sure the WG or SS will go way under the radar. The movement is arguably more interesting than a RWS (which is a true masterpiece, as you say) and the escapement specifically is clearly horologically superior by a big step.
