There are a few Breguets that fit the bill
but my favourite vintage looking watch would be the Murakumo by Kikuchi Nakagawa which at 36.8mm seems perfect in size. The dial, hands and numerals are a work of art in that price category.
the 35.5mm 5930 which has been in the collection for years. I do wish it came without a date and with a sapphire crystal case back
The 8787 at 36mm is deemed to be a ladies watch. I love the grand feu enamel dial, Breguet numerals and hands.
The 9067 at 33.5mm would fit my wrist well. Remove the date and it would be the perfect watch!

I figured if I can fit 42mm Breguets, then this should be fine!

42mm Breguets?? I struggle to wear 38mm Breguets no thanks to their straight lugs. For Breguets, 34mm to 36mm is ok for my wrist.

For sure the WG or SS will go way under the radar. The movement is arguably more interesting than a RWS (which is a true masterpiece, as you say) and the escapement specifically is clearly horologically superior by a big step.
