I'm impressed by the high bid, but not surprised.

After all, we've seen a Tiffany 5711 go for much more, albeit for charity. And we've even seen a set of novelty vinyl FP Journe dolls & toy watches go for an outrageous sum.
Mr. Rexhepi has been celebrated as the new darling of the independent watch world for a few years, yet all of his watches remained closely held in private hands until now. I see this as a triumph for collectors and enthusiasts because it may have the effect of encouraging other aspiring, talented watchmakers to pursue the craft.
It also may indicate that economic conditions are not quite as bad as some think and hint that a recovery may soon be in the offing. Lastly, it also speaks well of Mr. Rexhepi's discernment with regard to choosing who he allocates his watches to. It's impressive that this was the first RRCC to make it to the public market and all of the others have been held onto. Though I have a feeling that's about to change.š
And, BTW, I 100% agree with the sentiment that this is no way affects my personal collecting and enjoyment of the hobby. Why would I care what people spend their wealth on? In the same way, why would I care that people stand in line for hours every time a new allocation of plastic Speedmasters hits the market? Neither are for me.
