Someone school me on the online watch communities, please! This message has been edited by mkt33 on 2011-02-20 19:21:42 Thread locked. Thanks everyone for their insights and discussion but I believe all viewpoints have been discussed. This message has bee...
yourselves to find the gems from of each site. I did that and had fun learning from others and contributing along the way. This message has been edited by mell0822 on 2011-02-15 23:20:30
...to see what you like about each of them. There are some brand forums that are found on both sites, and some community members who frequent both. The key is to figure out which works for you -- maybe they both will. Welcome here! Cheers, Daos
It is like when some clients ask " Are you the best lawyer "? If you say yes, you look arrogant, and a bit stupid. If you say no, they go away. My answer is to read here and there and to find the place you feel more comfortable with. There are no good or ...
that's only my opinion :P I'm afraid you will never have any satisfy answer with a question like this. Is like asking what's the best ice cream flavor of the world. However I will say this, "I like it here in PuristSPro." Is it the best? I don't know but ...
I'll tell you a HUGE difference I experienced firsthand, I recently faced some serious service related grievances with Patek which I wanted to make public and write about so that cash paying customers like me know what they are getting into when buying a ...
. . . on TimeZone, Khalil Sheikh, is a friend of mine, and we've had a few conversations about this very subject. Please be assured that Khalil is a gentleman, first and foremost. The short version of the long story is that TimeZone has a liberal deletion...
While I saw similar things described by rishad happen at timezone, I now have a better understanding of why. I don't think one is "better" than the other, but rather a difference in taste. -Sun
I'm sorry, I disagree and do draw my conclusions based on my own personal experiences. Matter of fact, yes, it was this same person, Khalil, your friend who freely deleted my posts, repeatedly, and without being able to provide me any reason whatsoever fo...
. . . your position, Rishad. I read thru your missive and find nothing objectionable in principle, although it should be noted that our Patek forum moderator was essentially unsympathetic to your position. Your point, I take it, is that it was allowed her...
I appreciate and thank you for your understanding, Yes, this was my point, exactly. All I expected was tolerance. At the time, I didn't require sympathy or look for this from the moderator. That's not what I feel is a moderators job, so I've nothing again...
Hi Rishad, I can’t comment on the approach and practices of the TZ Moderators. I should mention, however, that we do delete posts occasionally on PPro, but not without considerable thought. We always write to the poster explaining why this was done and mo...
Hi Andrew, I understand, and have seen, this site is perfectly legit when they moderate, with good reasons. This is exactly why I state with giving the example as well, that you guys are doing a super job. Please keep it up, I'm proud to be a member of su...
I had a post deleted on the AHCI forum last year with no contact or email. I can certainly accept it could have been against policy, in fact I said so in the post. But I wad still shocked not to receive a message.
I can't comment on this specific post, Greg. Perhaps the Moderator who deleted it thought you were expecting it and knew the answer already?! All I can say is that I try to let people know by PM if I have had to delete their post, and I think the other Mo...
. . . the lines, it seems that you were aware the post was questionable, in which case an advisory isn't mandatory. There's a section in the Terms of Service that addresses this contingency, and it's most likely the moderator who deleted your post did so ...
I have lodged so many complains with management about his unethical use of the delete button. He is absolutely terrible at his job and should be demoted. In shor;t Kahlil sucks. I sympathize with your difficult time on Timezone. How could they treat you t...
observe the golden rule. If you don't have something good to say, (you know the rest) as a one of the mods here I hope you can appreciate how your post may make our lives a bit more difficult. I think the differences between moderating styles are clear an...
their "moderation" did not only go as far as stopping posters from posting unpleasant experience with manufacturers, they also do not like it when you post negative buying/selling experience even on watchnet's "deal watch" forum where this was exactly the...
I find this one congenial for a wide range of topics and one of the others for a particular specialized forum. There are some who have very strong opinions about a particular watch site or even a particular forum on a watch site, and some who seem to expe...
are probably the biggest problem with any forum. Same with overbearing rules. When intelligent discourse is crippled by either one of these factors, the forum becomes less relevant. They then become only populated by the forum favorites and their follower...
Posts here don't get deleted without warning or explanation. They are always left up with a moderator's comment as to why they were either edited or locked. I also must say that none of these are ever done on the basis of the moderator's personal opinion....
You can edit your posts here (albeit for a short time) There is an edit your post button on TZ, but clicking it (even seconds after posting) returns with "you cannot edit post". Annoys me to no end ;-) Never figured out why they left the button in place.
So no prizes for which I think it more suited for me. Note I said suited, not better. I will be totally honest here, and don't worry mods, I will be diplomatic, and NOT raise anything controversial. I like TZ for the sticky articles they have, though a lo...
I think the Purist site tends to focus more consistently on Haute Horology (the leading edge of the art, whether it be techncial, classical or otherwise). Its members tend more consistently to be, to site the name of the forum, "purists". In my opinion, T...
Our traffic is basically split equally amongst the USA, Europe, and Asia. We truly are a global website and we have a global moderator team as well. Best, Anthony This message has been edited by AnthonyTsai on 2011-02-16 13:52:53
I have posted on both and have been a fairly active member (until recently!) on TZ. They both have their good points and a lot of the same discussions, is Purist better than the other... depends what you are looking for! I think they are both fairly globa...
You will know who you want to "hang" with after doing some exploring. I do fair amount of posting on various forums but I always come back to here. Your experience may vary and only you can determine that! Though I don't have flare for writing like the re...
cen, and he is here. He is the notorious celebrity with super 'nice' or 'cool' travel pictures (that's what around 12 people said to me, but these 12 people carry the voice of millions, trust me!). On the other hand, TZ has more SOTC and daily wristscan. ...
Hmmmmmmm... they are both great resources. PuristsPro I would say, in general, goes 'deeper.' But then there are such great contributors on TZ--and incredible photos. Paul Boutros comes to mind.... Etc. And TZ is a better place to buy/sell lower priced wa...
1. TZ provides a "vintage watch" and a "watchmaking and repair" forum. 2. TZ has more traffic. 3. TZ has a lot more lower-end pieces in its sales fora, as well as straps, winders, cases, etc. 4. TZ has overt commercial sponsorship, including a very close ...
and as much as I love that forum, there's never any discussion about the new Omegas. It's basically a vintage forum. It's no fault of anyone, but if I see another 30T or similar, I'm going to scream. ;-) There's more talk of moderns on other forums (thoug...
Hi mrsnak hahaha Omega only made about 3 million 30 mm movements.... from 1939 to about 1962. I look forward to seeing some of your vintage on the Omega forum.. Gives me an idea for a new thread..... hmmmmm..... Good Hunting Bill Sohne
I love TimeZone and PuristSPro very much! Here's my story and the reason why I made this thread: I spent more of my online time on TimeZone and learned quite a bit within a few months. In fact, I enjoyed being on the forum so much, I figured that I should...
First off, select which photo you want as your avatar and then use our PhotoUploader and upload the picture in your post. After that, then follow the directions in the below link: http://helpdesk.watchprosite.com/show-forumpost/fi-543/pi-2334611/ti-389371...
Well, Dorothy (may we call you Dorothy?), Not many members get their first post listed as an Editor’s Pick (you can see this on the FRONT PAGE) so congratulations and welcome! It would have been interesting to see the response to the same question p...
Thank you for sharing your story. I'm so sorry to hear that you can no longer participate on your favorite watch forum. I can understand the whole wanting an identity on the site thing. When I first joined, I wasn't really thinking and just used my name.....
But seriously, I feel TZ is more in your face in terms of the language used. Not to say that candidness is not appreciated but I feel that it is vulgar at times. cheers PAt
Thank you for the kind support, Nicolas. And to my other friends for their generous comments. Your checks are in the mail. I've participated here for quite a few years, and have never felt the need to choose one over the other. With three full-time jobs +...
I first met Howard on a completely different site and have always found him to be a true gent. I enjoy both sites and have learnt a great deal from both. But if I was to be asked "which site do I start looking at first" then my answer would be "THIS ONE"
... and in fact I see that Nico has already responded to you, so again I'm following! Hi PAt, I know you were being humorous, but there is no other moderator quite like Nicolas, probably on this planet and certainly not on PPro or any other horology forum...
Surely you mean to tout Nicolas and with good reason. Nico is a friend to us all and a tremendous asset to thePurists. Howard has done a fantastic job, with Paul Boutros, of renovating the AP forum on TZ. I will always be a Purists first and foremost, and...
...and friend of Howard's, I have to give this post a heartfelt +1. He's a sincere, warm, friendly person, and as moderator's go, he's a tough act to follow. Indeed, I'll be patterning my stewardship of the IWC forum after his example. And Nico's. ;-) Reg...
You bring a smart, fresh face to TZ. Although I was bit surprised, given your participation on DWC (the Animal House of watch forums). I figured you must have had a good connection with the TZ management to begin with.
...Michael will ask me to tender my resignation. ;-) But seriously, this raises an excellent point regarding the different fora available for watch enthusiasts. Your "Animal House" description of the DWC is an apt one, and while I certainly do appreciate ...
You are correct about how we adapt to the tone of each one if we want to be part of it. This one has more of a specific philosophy (I've heard it referred to even as a "society" - maybe from its Asian origins) than most. It took me a little longer to find...
It's was more rowdy when Stan was there I guess. And I have not been to there for some time as well. Just spend most of my Horo time over here in Purists. Cheers PAt
The threshold question we all have to ask ourselves - and it has nothing to do with the comparative qualities of different sites - is: 'does it behove a member of this community (i.e. a Purist) to ask or answer such a question?' Cheers, pplater.
As we often do when asking questions about comparing watches from different brands, I suggest asking the same question on tz in order to get as well rounded and answer as possible.
