Horological Meandering

From a newbie ....

It is interesting to note all the comments by fellow purists.  Being a newbie, someone without a 'proper' watch and still looking for one, this is a topic close to my heart...how to buy/invest? in one which I like and retain her value over time.  I do not yet have that much passion to go into springs, escapements direct or indirect etc etc so I tag along a 'guru' and see what he owns and why he owns them.  From the short list, I find something I like, and if it is OOP but available at Sotheby at a price I can afford, bingo, I owned it even if I paid twice the original retail.

It is convenient and it is ready and it will not be wrong if Mr X owns them.  As to an undervalued piece, it is undervalued because the person who sees it that way has certain perspective, knowledge or experience unique to him but not to the seller.  It is not common knowledge to be able to see 'fair value'.  Not all appreciating watches are great and not all great watches appreciate in value.  Human, as we are, makes funny decision and cannot be comprehended like exact science.  Thats why we are human.

thank you purists for the knowledge shared.
