I recently was onboard a flight to the Balearic Islands with 2 friends for some boys fun. Having drank the obligatory 3/5 pints in the lounge and then onboard the flight it was time for the little boys room at the front of the aircraft. As we were sat together my 2 friends and myself all decided to go together. Stood at the front of the aircraft waiting for the toilets to become vacant I noticed 3 middle aged Men sat on the front row. Looked to me like golfers. Now you will all recognise what happened next as watch enthusiasts. The 3 of them were all wearing Rolex. They had 2 submariners and a yellow gold YM. My 2 buddies had their Kermit and Explorer 2 on. I on the other hand had my Tudor Chrono on. As we stood for a few minutes I saw all 3 checking out our watches bearing in mind they were only a few feet away they couldn’t conceal their excitement at seeing fellow watch owners. I heard them talking discussing what we had on. Yes that’s a Kermit the lead golfer said then a few seconds later the other said yes and that’s an Explorer 2 then there was a pause. I heard the lead expert say no no it’s not ummmm is it? the other one said. Ummmmm ah no the lead said with disappointment In his voice it’s just a Tudor.
My black Tudor Chrono had been described as just a Tudor.
This made me smile so much and even more proud of my poor man’s Rolex.
When we got back to our seats I told my friends whom have both been with me on my journey for over 25 years of watch collecting. They both laughed and said if only they knew.
Go and tell them one said. Not a chance I said they will have a much better golfing trip as it is.
Maybe 15 years ago I may have showed them a picture of my Daytona collection but now with Maturity not a chance just an Inward smile.
I’m sure many here have been in a similar position. Just made me smile.
M.
