Bill's meticulous compilation of Rolex box references from the 1950s to the mid-2000s offers an invaluable resource for collectors and enthusiasts. This guide, focusing primarily on vintage sports models, addresses the often-overlooked but crucial aspect of original packaging, which significantly impacts a watch's provenance and value. His work highlights the subtle evolution of Rolex boxing, providing a foundational list for identifying correct period-specific accessories.

Here is a Rolex Vintage mostly sports models Box reference list.  Compiled from various sources so errors can sometimes be replicated.

The early 1950-1960 boxes mostly did not have reference numbers and seemed to often be interchangeable among models.

Use the list loosely as a guide but by no means definitive.

All updates welcome.

About the Rolex Daytona Ref. 6263

The Rolex Daytona reference 6263 represents a significant evolution within the Daytona chronograph line, distinguished by its screw-down pushers and the introduction of a black acrylic bezel. This reference, produced during the 1970s, is part of the manual-wind era of Daytonas, preceding the automatic movement versions. It is recognized for its robust construction and enhanced water resistance compared to earlier non-Oyster models, making it a practical choice for daily wear while retaining a classic aesthetic.

This reference features a 37mm stainless steel case, housing the Valjoux 727 manual-winding chronograph movement. The Valjoux 727 is an updated version of the Valjoux 72, known for its reliability and precision. The watch is fitted with an acrylic crystal and offers a water resistance of 50 meters. Its power reserve is approximately 45 hours, typical for movements of this period, providing consistent timekeeping for extended periods between winding.

For collectors, the 6263 is notable for its blend of vintage charm and improved functionality. It appeals to those who appreciate the design language of early Daytonas but seek the added security of screw-down pushers. Variants often include different dial configurations, such as the silver dial with black sub-dials or the reverse "panda" dial, which contribute to its diverse appeal within the vintage watch market. The black acrylic tachymeter bezel is a defining characteristic.

I have a full set 1.9 million serial number. The chronometer certificate is dated May 1969. It’s printed rather than handwritten. There are quite a few differences in the details. My box is white and has a 1675 sticker on the side. The inner box has some small differences as well. The wooden surface on the inside of the lid has a lacquer finish and is printed with β€œCreation Geneva Rolex”. I tried posting a photo, but I am getting a server error.

Even though they are mass produced and just a few years apart, there are many changes in the details, even among the packaging. Your 1675 is more original than mine. I got mine from my father who purchased it in Germany in 1970. He maintained it meticulously with Rolex and had the dial, hands, bracelet, crystal replaced multiple times over the years. But I still have his original receipt from purchase.
