Hodinkee has the right formula
Dec 16, 2020,15:08 PM
... just make the case smaller, dial simpler, and remove the date. But it's a formula and getting pretty predictable at this point, despite the obvious appeal. Why the companies don't just do this on their own, I have no idea.
I've always liked the Fifty Fathoms but most new ones are quite large, a little flashy, and include a date. I don't even mind the fat lugs -- to my eye, they look masculine and pretty balanced. That said, trimmer lugs are beautiful on this watch too.
I just don't want to spend $14,000 on a watch with a NATO strap that the manufacturer couldn't come up with on its own. Doesn't feel good or right, for some reason.
That said, for those who bought one, congrats -- it's a very nice looking watch.
