For me, this year's offering from Lange doesn't really excited me that much. Don't get me wrong, some of them are really great addition to the Lange line up but not to my taste.
Take the L1 Perpetual for example. I think technically it's a good piece to have in Lange's line up. It's about time they add a new complication to the L1 family. But, why automatic? I would love this more if it's a true Lange 1 Tourbillon Perpetual - this one I would call it Lange 1 DAYMATIC Tourbillon Perpetual! Secondly, there's something strange to the look of the dial. I cannot pin-point exactly what's making me not warm up to it, but here might be some of the things that I'm not entirely happy about:
- I never warmed up to Daymatic's flipped-L1 layout. For some reason I'm too used to the L1 layout. Flipping it looks like I'm looking at it in a mirror.
- The moonphase cut-out is slanted (as in Grand L1 Luna Mundi) rather than horizontal. I prefer it like in the L1 MP.
- Something with the month ring - the font? ring is too thin? I'm not sure.
To Lange's credit, they've answered my wish to have a hidden tourbillon, but unfortunately the other aspects didn't excite me.
The Dato Up-Down is another one that I wished for it when it's not here, and now that it's here, I slightly preferred the original. The 60h power reserve is exactly what I wanted. Power reserve, I'm indifferent (doesn't bother me), but 39mm vs 41mm, I would prefer 39mm. Nevertheless it is still an appropriate release.
As for the Saxonia Thin and L1 TZ additions, these models are not on my "radar" in the past, but they are nice to have, to have the line-up more complete.
Suddenly I had a thought - I wonder with Lange's capability to make extremely well finished watches, have they ever thought about an open-worked watch at all?

I was reading your comments and it just came to mind that the new Cartier annual calendar also has the months on a perimeter ring. Interesting design there too. Doing so does make effective use of limited dial space I guess.

My view on the novelties is that they are ALL EXCELLENT.
I love each of the new watches released this year, as much as i love the previous ones, and can see no reason to complain. Lange is still the finest brand in the world.
