... to see how others handle in the coming years, because the cosmetic differences on the dial side of the Lange 1 are so subtle (unlike the Datograph, in which the dial changed radically). And with the Datograph, Lange officially changed the name by adding "Up/Down" to it, whereas the Lange 1 name didn't change at all. I COULD see an argument that "the original, iconic Datograph was discontinued and then replaced by a completely different watch, the Datograph Up/Down -- but the original, iconic Lange 1 was just subtly changed a bit, and so the new Lange 1 has the same iconic status as the old Lange 1." For me, the big aesthetic difference is a negative one -- the removal of the 2 sub-bridges on the new L1 movement -- which makes the movement look less visually interesting to the layperson.
