I heard the exact same thing in HK a few months ago
The purchase of a Zeitwerk at the official boutique would get you a spot on a waiting list for a steel Odysseus, to be filled in 3-4 years.
I guess the Odysseus only comes as a bundle with a Zeitwerk these days, at full retail in an official boutique, and even then the waiting time is very long.
I am disappointed that A.L&S employ these tactics (which are a slap in the face of their AD's), but not overly surprised seeing that its CEO these days is a car salesman.

popped in to the Bond Street boutique this morning to inquire... I was told that if I buy a Zeitwerk, I would be put forward for the steel version and possibly get one in 2025.. As for the titanium, it's impossible unless I am a long established purchaser...

I think it happens in a number of industries
But personally I deplore that most brands are now headed by marketeers rather than industrialists like e.g. Guenter Bluemlein.

This "reward" argument would have some weight if they applied it to customers of their AD's as well
But that's not what they do with the Odysseus, which I see as a land grab from A.L&S to capture the retailer's margin from its AD's. And bundle it with the purchase of another watch for good measure, unless one wants to wait for their allocation forever. ...
