I wish I had a built-in "autopilot mode"! For the past few years, the watch that I pick with the least amount of thinking -- the one I care about the least, in a sense -- is this 1680 red sub. I paid relatively little for it, since some of the lume plots (specifically 4, 5, and 6) once had some work done to them before I bought it (and the caseback is stamped "5512," though the 1969 date code is correct). The 4 lume plot looked fine to me. But the brown blemishes on the 12 and 6 markers bothered me, as did the irregular 5 lume plot. The 5 and 6 lume plots were the worst. So I had all of this cleaned up, which involved (for the 6 and 12 markers) lightly scraping the brown blemishes so that the remaining original unblemished lume material beneath was now visible. I had no problem being aggressive about this work, which I knew was risky, since the dial had prior work done to it before I bought it.
