At last, in Harmony...
Sep 11, 2022,12:28 PM
This one came unexpected.
Made in celebration of Vacheron Constantin's 260 year anniversary and announced in 2015, this Ref. 5100S was made in an edition of 26 pieces in platinum. I have never seen one in the metal. So you can imagine my surprise when VC boutique called and asked me if I would be interested to see this rare bird. Apperently, one of the pieces made never found the way to its intended owner and came to the surface after a 7 year sleep in the vault.
So I put it on the wrist, spent a few mesmerized moments with it in the boutique, sold the house, my wife and a few organs, and added this beauty to my humble collection.
The obvious star of this piece is the beautiful one-minute tourbillon in its Maltese-cross shaped cage. But I'd argue the monopoussoir chronograph gives the tourbillon a run for its money, as does the beautiful art-deco style Harmony case.
Flip it over and the movement gives you all its glory. Not a Lemania base like many other VC chrono movements, Cal. 3200 was developed from the ground up at VC and made its debut in the Harmony line. In this anniversary model, the tourbillon bridge is beautifully hand engraved.
Let me share more details and impressions after a few more weeks. For now, it's off to a harmonious honeymoon!
Cheers,
Daniel
