This appears original to me. I also came across a wonderful article here www.rescapement.com s
were they name dial variants for my favorite vacheron reference the 4072. The dial 3 variant is dedicated to black enamel versions where - of the 6 dial variants - the 3rd (black enamel) is indeed the most rare. In there survey of 80+ watches (small in comparison to the known 1178) there were only 2 known. One of them for sale on chrono24.

As some of you may know I have been on the prowl for a while now. My goal was to purchase a V&C within a specific budget that was relatively rare. I believe I have accomplished that goal in finding a two tone steel and pink gold 4073. This beautiful p...

Thanks. Me too!

No its not the right crown unfortunately.

That is why I stated at the end I have to source a period correct pink gold flats crown! If you can help a brotha out LMK.

No worries!

I definitely want to source one as this replacement crown throws the entire proportions off of the watch.

yes yes I am like a little kid today

with a lovely vintage V&C. I know this watch from some years ago! The dial demonstrates many techniques; minute and seconds markings en réserve, galvanized base with contrasting brushing, applied gold numerals, a tour-de-force from 1946. Is "Vacheron ...

The text is incised into the dial.

This picture from the seller I believe more clearly depicts the incised technique. Also, here is the picture of the movement from the seller and finally with the crown off. I really really appreciate all the info on the watch Dean. Thank you very much and...

thanks for the extra photos

I see a gold crown in these pictures? Interesting to note that a black wax was rubbed into the incised markers which hardened over time and is quite durable.

Yes the seller for some reason had the watch serviced a few years ago

and decided to let his watchmaker replace the crown for whatever reason. He also did not request that any replaced parts be returned to him. Unfortunately that crown is now gone. I am not sure but I assume the crown tube was also replaced for whatever rea...

I hope you do as well!

I know you will. I was a lover of V&C from a far for awhile before finally getting this. Be patient and the time will come. Enjoy the ride my friend!

Be very picky!

I suggest finding references that you like visually first and then learning everything you can about them. Once you are confident in your knowledge than choose a fine example of the reference you love.

Congrats for this wonderful piece

A very nice example of VC pieces from that time. ANd the movement is laos looking good and seems not to have been "misused ". One example that I have missed from my collection.

Thanks for the kind words.

It's a great feeling when wake up in the morning and see something beautiful.

Thank you!

It definitely put a smile on my face this morning that is for sure.

Two tone cases is one of the things they did well.

Here is what the crown should look like. Mine has a refinished dial, but it is the finest redial I've ever seen. Too bad they didn't make black dials back then. ...

Are you sure they didnt do black dials back then?

Here is a link from antiquorum for a watch that was sold in 2005: catalog.antiquorum.swiss 8 It looks like a 4073 to me. Obviously a timepiece being sold at auction with no mention of redial is far from concrete proof that its original but just su...

Black dials

 By: northcentralsouth : April 15th, 2022-21:01
There seems to be a chronograph from the 1940's in the museum that has a black dial which they say is original. Other than that, in my 25 years of intensely following the market, and collecting, no, I've never seen an original black dial. Or even many bla...

Sandwich dials

 By: northcentralsouth : April 15th, 2022-21:05
I really love the watches they made in the 1930's. Of the sandwich dials, I've seen four. I have two, the other one is in gold with mobile lugs. Maybe it's another style we will see in the Heritage collections at some point?

Could you share the other one
