Please, everyone, be smarter than I was…a public service message to my watch friends
Jan 08, 2024,16:31 PM
I’m not looking for sympathy, I truly want all of you to please pay attention to what your bodies are telling you.
For about eight or nine months, maybe longer, I told myself and my family it’s all just because I’m getting older…”I’m 64, of course my arthritis is getting worse”…”everyone’s appetite wanes as they age”…”my father used to get tired when he was in his mid-60s”…and the list goes on, never anything major, just subtle changes. Then, about a month and a half ago, I passed out while sitting with my wife and kids watching TV. Luckily I was sitting. My family thought I was kidding. I awoke to hear my youngest daughter talking to emergency services on her phone.
To my point… I was diagnosed with leukemia around November 15th, went through my first round of chemotherapy, then spent just over a month in the hospital recovering before being sent home on Christmas Eve, where I was able to spend the holidays with my family.
I feel I was a fool. I ignored everything my body was telling me. Please, be smarter than that.
I should say, my doctors are happy with what my latest biopsies show, and other than three very bad days I’m doing fine although I’m still rather weak. Tomorrow starts my next round of chemo and although I’m not looking forward to that, I’m glad to still be here.
On a more uplifting note, I’m expecting delivery this week of my second Jaquet Droz, my favorite brand. Nothing keeps a watch enthusiast down. I’ll post when it arrives as long as I’m feeling up to it.
Thanks for reading.
