I still think it\'s a fair price and I\'m glad they put in an 8L caliber which brings it close to a GS. Having seen previous re editions Seiko did, it will be a stunner! This dial colour, sunburst, facetted hands, high domed sapphire... I\'m all in!

How much did this watch cost new back in the days? Was it an expensive watch as well or not?

But, it is a beautiful watch. I guess it is all boils down to what you compare it against it? With Seiko, other than Grand Seiko, yes, it feels a little steep, but vs comparable Swiss Manufactures, I believe you get a lot of bang for your buck. Limited ed...

This really from the perspective of the watches actually being used as the watches for real divers in terms of popularity.

and the popularity of older SUVs like Defenders and Broncos (and Unimogs... oh how I'd love a home in Maine and a Unimog!!!) that were built for rugged environs that didn't include PTA meetings or the opera.

But as you said Defenders and Bronco where work vehicles even the elcamino was a work truck back in the day. Now a days the Kardashian are the Mercedes G wagon owners not the European farmers of yesteryear. Bill

Sure, one would get 80 or 90% of the watch for much less by choosing other models in their portfolio but the price is not that much unlike their other high end dive watches...

Personally, I would have been totally fine with them making it a production watch, like the turtle re release, and making it more affordable. Because it would make more sense for me to go buy a really nice vintage 62MAS for $1,000-$2,000. I understand tha... 

And the choice still remains. However, diving with a vintage MAS is only for those with strong nerves, whereas there is no risk with the new one

but without any guarantee. I opted for the latter but would have preferred to place a deposit as you did. I've been thinking about biting the bullet and just paying for it so as to be assured a watch. Still an odd practice.

Thanks for sharing and sorry for the late post. For me, I believe it's a perfect size with nearly perfect detail on the original one. Seiko did well also on this reissue. The only issue is whether to get this or the 253 or both. 😄

IMO the cost is definitely justified after handling it. It's a very high quality piece. The domed crystal, case finishing, dial etc. Plus, the overall vintage look is perfect. It's 1965 again! I actually think it's a bargain compared to some higher priced...
