It's been standard practice to do this in Australia and some parts of Asia
Starting back in the "Good ole times" ADs started using the SS Daytona as a tool, or marketing gimmick, to attract sales by only selling it to someone, If they bought another Rolex, and some even had conditions like you must pay full retail and I have even seen above retail being paid.
Rolex will do nothing because they are the ones that limit production of this model to allow it to be hard to get and create this mentality of "It's hard to get...I gotta have one".
But do not worry too much as the watch industry is like a barometer of the economy and the Global Recession will sought some of these guys out.
High end watches, luxury cars, private aircraft sales, and boats are the first to fall in these times and many will fall over the next couple of years.....some will fall right off the planet.
You have seen what happened to the Car makers world wide since last October, you have seen Australia's biggest largest luxury boat maker going into receivership... one of America's largest maker of light aircraft has halted production of several models and so it goes..... The "Good tImes" are gone.... some people just haven't woken up to that fact yet.
Kindest regards,
Jack

Hello and sorry to hear about your experiences. Have you tried contacting another AD or called around? The way the economy is now, the watch industry in general is struggling and inventory is high. You shouldn't have to purchase a watch just to buy the on...

Sorry to hear of your experiences. Thankfully not all dealers act that way. Many owners of Rolex watches go back and buy more watches. In the long run this dealer will loose a lot of customers if he keeps up this policy. I wonder if Rolex the Company is a...

You should let the Rolex Co. to know about this practice. It´s simple abusive and you shouldn't just let this through. Even if I haven´t bought not a pencil from them, if I wanted a Daytona my AD wouldn't hesitate to put me in the (looong) list;...

even have ready stock for an SS Daytone. What I know is, the SS version is sold at a premium or at least sold at official list price due to the rarity and the high demand. For example: a two tone daytona might be at the same price as the SS version. Your ...

Hey guys thanks to ALL who responded to my thread. It’s good to see the majority of opinions concur with my own. My local AD has a ridiculous policy and I’ll definitely voice my objections with any potential or existing customer/s I encounter. Using a Day...

Just to clarify why i mentioned I need to go interstate to find another AD. Adelaide is a smallish city of just over 1 million people and there is only 1 AD here. The next nearest AD is in Melbourne (about 800kms away - Yes Australia is a vast land and ci...
