Hey guys thanks to ALL who responded to my thread. It’s good to see the majority of opinions concur with my own.
My local AD has a ridiculous policy and I’ll definitely voice my objections with any potential or existing customer/s I encounter.
Using a Daytona as marketing leverage in that way is despicable & I agree, it amounts to nothing short blackmail. I won’t ever go back to there, that’s for sure!
I rang an interstate AD who was willing to put me on his wait list, but I think from here my plan is to visit a few more AD’s interstate & see what they say.
As for reporting this to Rolex, all I could find on the Rolex website is the phone number to Australian Headquarters – I’ll call them when I get a chance & see what they say.
When I eventually get the Daytona I’ll be sure to post some pics on here!!

That would never happen with Omega or Breitling, I would imagine, unless it was a rare solid gold watch perhaps. How about foregoing the 'new' mentality and buy 'like new' or 'mint', there are so many out there waiting to get 'adopted'! =:^D

You should let the Rolex Co. to know about this practice. It´s simple abusive and you shouldn't just let this through. Even if I haven´t bought not a pencil from them, if I wanted a Daytona my AD wouldn't hesitate to put me in the (looong) list;...

I would change AD- you should be treated right. It is understandable for an AD to reserve some watches for regular and good customers but you should not be forced to buy a watch just to be placed on a list- especially when you just bought a watch a month ...
Ditto PinkPanther's suggestion. Also, I just saw a SS Daytona without premium at an AD.
PinkPanter is correct, this is absolute blackmail. There's an SS Daytona here in Orange County, California at the local Rolex Boutique in the window, without markup, without having you must buy another watch.
Most AD may not
even have ready stock for an SS Daytone. What I know is, the SS version is sold at a premium or at least sold at official list price due to the rarity and the high demand. For example: a two tone daytona might be at the same price as the SS version. Your ...

Are you sure you mean interstate?
Interstate means outside of your state. You seem to be trying to say that you are trying to find other ADs within your state...
