Warm welcome here, thanks for sharing your story and your new Patek.
Re Rolex, and the Sub. Absolutely no apologies in saying that the Sub is a legend, in design, in modern (last 100 years) watchmaking, in branding and so on. It still retains the level of robustness that a tool watch should, and (absent the recent times of watch stealing in various cities throughout the world) it’s a go anywhere watch.
Re 5146 versus the 5205, it’s simply that the latter has a more contemporary design and young feel. The former more classic, in dial design and sizing. No wrong choice.
My first, and still only Patek (as I cannot get my AD or any AD for that matter to sell me a cloisonné enamel WT), is the 5711. At heart I’m a sport watch person, therefore was always the only first choice. That said, I did come close on a WG WT (non enamel) 10 years or so ago and again (WG, WG bracelet) a few years ago.
